Didn’t forget, but he got it because the production as a whole was awarded. He didn’t get it for his general songwriting. Just think there are lots of songwriters who deserve the recognition over some of the current recipients.

If you have Paul McCartney, members of Led Zepplin and Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend of The Who, how do you not honor Mick Jagger? I don't believe Glenn Close has been honored and I think she deserves it.

I mean, Liza Minnelli is the textbook definition of show business. Her mother is (you can argue...and I will) the greatest female entertainer of 20th Century. Her father was a very successful stage designer and film director. Liza carved out a space for herself away from the light of her parents, although her and her mother's lives have been parallel multiple times. She is *technically an EGOT winner (The Grammy was non competitive, but a Grammy Legend Award). Since the height of her popularity in the 1960/1970/1980's, she has reinvented herself with multiple times or has shown a range that isn't usually seen (ie. her album produced/created with The Pet Shop Boys, Arrested Development). She has become an icon for not only Broadway, but the LGBTQ+ community. The image of her as Sally Bowls in Cabaret, as become so iconic that many people can identify either her of the film from just an image, and still today there are performers who are recreating that image. Like many others on the list of Kennedy Centre honourees, when so many others have left this world and are forgotten, Liza Minnelli will be a name that is still talked about.

re Liza, everyone can (and has) come up with all sorts of substantive reasons but there are also procedural reasons she would not get the award. First and foremost, she may have said no (maybe just once and that's enough, or maybe more than once). Bear in mind that you have to commit to show up. That's why there are no posthumous awards. Now yes, exigent circumstances may keep you from coming and they don't take it back if you can't show (hence, the sole posthumous award), but it seems completely and reasonably possible to me that Liza was asked and said no. (I don't know, but that's what I have always thought when the subject has come up.)

Is it also true that Joni Mitchell has not been honored?

The Kennedy Center Honors should follow the example of the John F. Kennedy Profile In Courage Award and give it only to a single individual. A few more deserving would be missed but the award would have the greatest possible impact and meaning.

I would throw Pink Floyd in there also with Jagger and The Stones. And Bowie. (Didn't see him on the list unless I missed it)

Regarding Allen, I feel she sure has reached the Kennedy Center level. But they do really need to get Liza and Channinghonored also.

bwaydreamer - I'm with you on the issue of Debose's star power. While she was a good dancer in Hamilton, fine as Donna Summer, and ok in The Prom, she's never radiated star power for me. It's even more evident now, given that her manager/agents have her doing any tv gig, no matter the role, that comes along. I imagine they're getting her in front of the public eye before WSS comes out - but nothing she's done since heading out West has hit the mark for me. The hosting gig, dancing in ensembles, etc. On last nights Kennedy Center honors, my focus went to Vivian Nixon and Tiler Peck. Spielberg obviously sees something special in her. Maybe she'll enlighten us in WSS?

Now Adrienne Warren on the other hand......
