What a joke of a DVD release. Typical.

"As far as we know, the only extra material will be a Wiz on Down the Road featurette, and the theatrical trailer. An 8-Track Bonus CD Featuring Songs by Michael Jackson & Diana Ross will also be included."

They're "celebrating" the 30th anniversary of an embarassing flop? Jeez, what a waste of of money.
Hey Capn- Any plans on ever updating Moviemusicals.net? I always wonder that when I see your signature link.
Not to pester, but it's a cool site and no updates in over 6 months...

Oh good... let's "celebrate" a movie that has long been available for $5 or less at Wal*Mart due to sheer lack of interest by releasing a new one that adds absolutely no special features.
Um, those features are already on the current DVD which has been available for years: the WIZ ON DOWN THE ROAD featurette (not listed on the DVD backcover but is on the DVD) and the trailer.
Guess the ONLY addition to merit this new 30th Anniversary Edition will be that pointless CD sampler and of course...the new anamophic print which will be very nice for those widescreen TV owners.
Here's the cover art of the current/old DVD:

Oh, yeah - the movie where Ms. Ross, having a "whim of iron" stole a potentially great part from a YOUNG black actress and then looked miserable on screen for over two hours.
What a horror that movie was! (I liked Lena and Nipsy though and the bad witch)
Pure Crap!

As I said when I heard about the Ring of Fire cast recording:
Oh hell
...Ah YES, but it's 30th Anniversary Crap!
"These are desperate times, Mrs. Lovett, and desperate measures must be taken..."
I...ya know...I...sorta like...just SOMETIMES...enjoy watching this movie...
The lack of an anamorphic transfer did indeed piss me off, but it's not worth another purchase if there's no new special features.

"...Ah YES, but it's 30th Anniversary Crap!"
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Why not bring out crap that's at least entertaining (in a funny sort of way) like Lost Horizon or At Long Last Love!
oh bah! I like this movie!
sure it ain't the best adaptation, but it's fun and I watched it almost daily when I was a little gay sick elementary school boy.
I actually enjoy this movie a little bit. It's not great by any standards, but Jackson, Russel, Ross, King, and Horne are all great in it.
It's kinda fun to watch, except when it's just Diana on screen.

as someone mentioned earlier... i'm only buying it because it's anamorphic... i hate that the one now is not...
did anyone else love the BRAND NEW DAY scene in FAMILY GUY.... that was freaking brilliant!!!
Why didn't that La Jolla revival make it to Broadway? I love this score and the only production I've ever seen live was an ok regional production. Instead we get Godspell.... ugh.

THE WIZ, starring Miss Diana 'The Boss' Ross is the greatest movie musical ever made.

The last Broadway revival of 'The Wiz' made it to the grand totla of 13 performances! Im not sure if it'll get to Broadway again despite the success it had in California earlier this year.

Ok, so I am gonna go out on a limb and confess that this movie is an insane guilty pleasure. Yes, it's total crap. Yes, Diana Ross was probably high when she called Barry Gordy and said "I Should Be Dorothy!" Yes, she is far too old.
That said, I saw this when I was about 8 for the first time, and as a young Oz-enthusiast and young musical enthusiast, and a Musical Theatre Queen in Training, it slipped past my Radar O' Crap and fell into my heart. I will be buying this on the day it comes out, new crap or not. All I want is new cover art.
With regards to La Jolla- I do not think it's happening. From a very reliable source, the cast member that has first refusal rights has not been approached for either a Broadway run, or the upcoming 2008 San Fran run. The rights have been unfrozen for regional theatres, and most (if not all) of the cast have moved on to better things. Aside from that, (and I know some of you will not agree with me, and that is fine), I think the entire concept was crap, and the revisions don't work. And I stand by my statement of "If it doesn't work on paper, it can not work in real life."
There's to be a 2008 San Fran run? Tell me more please.

alterego-
It was announced back in the Spring (I think), but I've heard nothing else since.
I loved Lost Horizon!! Now that I would buy! (I own the album) I do own the vinyl recording of "The Wiz". I really only listened to it for the Emerald City sequence. And I haven't listened to it in years.

Does your LP have the insert for Wiz T-Shirts? I really want to write to the address and see if they still have them.
Thanks husk_charmer. Your enquiry made me search out my THE WIZ soundrack and would you believe that in the sleeve I found the flyer for the T-Shirts! Adult sizes $6.00 Bargain!!! Says the offer expires on March 19, 1979, so you are about 28 years too late but who knows, they may have a huge backlog of orders! Creative Promotions Inc. P.O. Box 25750, Cincinnati, Ohio 54225.

this is a waste they need to remake it with a good director who
dose not picture the show in an urban setting that was a terrible mistake and they need a good music arranger i hated
how they rearrged the score but i do like how the did stage he's the wiz.
