No venue has been announced yet, but next year's Tony Awards will be taking place on June 5th!

I'm really hoping they do something special; I love it when shows celebrate milestones. 70's a big one! lol.
Also... I'm wondering if Hamilton will top any of the records set by The Producer, whether we're talking nominations and/or wins.

Otherwise know as the least suspenseful night in Tony history.

The 70th Annual (Hamil)Tonys! lol. I'm excited to see it this spring, though.
I think the Leading Actress in a Musical and Musical Revival categories will be interesting this year. :)
Actually I agree jacob. I don't think any of the acting races are foregone conclusion
At this point only best musical is a given.
I would say direction of a musical and score are Hamilton's to lose, but it's not inconceivable that something else could snatch them.

Do you think Spring Awakening could take direction? What are your thoughts for Score? Just the little I heard, I'm thinking Hamilton could take score, as well, like ITH... but that's just my opinion. Especially since Lin-Manuel is the lead, giving him Score and/or Book would still be a good way to honor his overall work on the show.

I agree, especially because of all the potential candidates coming in:
Best Performance By a Leading Actor in a Musical:
Alex Brightman-School of Rock: The Musical
Danny Burstein-Fiddler on the Roof
Andrew Keenan-Bolger-Tuck Everlasting
Telly Leung-Allegiance
Zachary Levi-She Loves Me
Austin McKenzie-Spring Awakening
Lin-Manuel Miranda-Hamilton
Josh Segarra-On Your Feet!
Benjamin Walker-American Psycho
Best Performance By a Leading Actress in a Musical:
Laura Benanti-She Loves Me
Cynthia Erivo-The Color Purple
Eloise Kropp-Dames at Sea
Sarah Charles Lewis-Tuck Everlasting
Audra McDonald-Shuffle Along, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed
Jessie Mueller-Waitress
Phillipa Soo-Hamilton
Ana Villafane-On Your Feet!

Already have my Hamilton tickets for Tony Tuesday. I would love to see Lin take book and score and Odom Jr. take whichever category he's nominated in (which I think should be lead). I'm so excited already!
I was really hoping to go to the Tonys this year. Seemed like something I want to do once in my life and I thought this would be the perfect year to try since Hamilton is my favorite show. I'm bummed that it's probably not going to be at Radio City as it sounds like there's a chance if it's at the Beacon there may not be tickets publicly available. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed and wait and see when they announce the venue.

ugh I hope LMM doesn't get nominated in the acting categories. give it to another more deserving person. he may be a great composer and lyricist but a great actor/ singer he is not.

I hope that Odom Jr will show up in the lead category. Does anyone know how they determine who goes in lead and who goes in featured?

I have a tix to Hamilton for the night of the Tony nominations. Should be an electric show especially if they secure a bunch of nominations.

Well, most likely expect Spring Awakening to get Best Direction. Also, there could be another Ruthie Ann Miles vs. 3 FH Girls, Like the 2 sisters (Phillipia [spelling] will be Leading Actress) vs. Krysta in Spring Awakening, LMM/Odom vs Danny in Fiddler and so forth.

You mean Phillipa Soo?! Google's hard...
Krysta will not be considered a leading actress. Have you ever seen Spring Awakening? Her character is on stage for 17 minutes, maybe.

I'm interested to see if they'll dual nominate the deaf and singing actors in Spring Awakening. I think Sandra Mae and Katie are absolutely knock out in that show and would love to see them nominated together.
^They'll probably end up getting a special Tony Award just like how the cast of Big River was given one back in 2004.
Can someone refresh my memory as to how the Tony Awards treat new musicals vs. revivals? It would be separate "Best" categories for the overall award (e.g. Best Musical vs. Best Musical Revival) but all of the other categories are merged, is that correct? If so, that will certainly make it more exciting, since Spring Awakening is really getting great reviews.
There are so many great performances in "Hamilton," I'll be very interested to see how the nominations shake out. I too feel that Leslie Odom Jr. deserves a "Best Actor" nomination, not Best Supporting, and I suspect that's what he'll get. Not sure how these decisions are made; is there actually a formula used or is it all up to the committee's discretion?

Ooooooh, I didn't know they did that for Deaf Wests's BR. That makes sense I suppose.
There have been times before where an actor/actress was placed in the leading category despite the fact that they weren't even the star of their own show.
Clive Revill-Oliver!
Jack Gilford-Cabaret
George Rose-My Fair Lady
Terrence Mann-Les Miserables
Hank Azaria-Spamalot
Norbert Leo Butz-Catch Me If You Can
Bertie Carvel-Matilda
Lotte Lenya-Cabaret
Susan Browning-Company
Elaine Stritch-Compamy
Leland Palmer-Pippin
Donna McKechnie-A Chorus Line
Dorothy Loudon-Annie

We counted one time, and they have about 18 people eligible (including multiple noms for LMM and all featured actors/no ensemble) so in theory, yes they could pull it off. However, with some of the other shows coming in I highly doubt they would get that many as it would fill the featured actor category.
On how it is determined, from what I understand, if a person is listed above the title, they are automatically considered as "leading" and all those below are "featured". However, producers can petition to have someone moved to the other category (so LMM, and/or Leslie Odom, Jr. and Phillipa Soo can be petitioned into their respective leading categories).
It was just revealed that the 70th Tony Awards will be held at the Beacon Theatre on June 12th:

They should've just done it at the Rodgers to save everyone time.
