A BEAUTIFUL NOISE to close June 30

With poor ticket sales and often less than 60% of the theatre seats being sold, A Beautiful Noise on Broadway is expected to close. This closing will come before the deluge of new Broadway shows that are arriving on the block in March and April 2024. An official date for the show closing has not yet been announced, but is expected soon.

I've heard as early as March 10 and as late as April 14.

NYTix is not usually a trustworthy source, so I’m taking this with a grain of salt.

I've heard it's coming. the April 14 closing is likely more accurate. Their advance sales is very poor.

A Beautiful Noise was scheduled to run through June 30, 2024, but now even that date is up in the air. The weekly ticket sales of $700K are just not enough to support the show, that has operational costs in excess of $1.1 Million per week. Investors may now want out.
Tickets were on sale through September 1 as of last week only to be changed to June 30 recently.

I've always had the wild and crazy idea that Mamma Mia would return to the Broadhurst following its late August tour stop in DC. Makes sense in my mind at least. Beautiful Noise closes in the spring or summer, and Mamma Mia picks right back up where it left off on Broadway in the fall.

If it cost 1.1 mil a week, there are very few weeks they made money.

They might be right about this.
But it's worth just a general reminder to everyone that NYTix is not just an unreliable source, but a downright laughable one. I honestly sometimes wonder if they're even a serious site.
I'm pretty sure they are, but their content is sometimes ridiculous enough to be satire.
Let's just make sure we don't get into the habit of citing them as anything close to a reputable (or even serious) source.

Wait, what the fück?! Ken Davenport is so freaking inept. A Neil Diamond musical should not cost 1.1 million dollars. Can someone breakdown the weekly costs, because that makes no sense.

It doesn't cost $1.1 million, I know that for a fact. NYTix is the most unreliable source out there lol.

How could A Beautiful Noise possibly have the same weekly running cost as the upcoming, pricey Cabaret revival? Song royalties, perhaps? Inflation? I feel like something's a bit fishy here...

Yes, but don’t forget to add in “Theatre Rent %” and “Minimum Royalties”. That’s above “weekly operating costs”. People always forget these two “cost” pieces which are typically shown on a P&L below weekly “operating” costs. So, close to a million “all in” is actually very conceivable. Actually, For most musicals these days.

Those factors are part of their operating costs. I wonder if they got a break on their rent as no new show was looking to take the theater this Spring. I know SUNSET was looking at the theater but passed on it. The producers may just tough it out until June 30.

My question is as to why they have been fighting so hard to keep it going. I realize they want to make some money back but I feel they are desperate to keep it open for Neil Diamond. To me it’s like they don’t want to upset him. They have been offering so many deep discounts and can’t even fill the theater at those discounts. I don’t recall seeing a show fighting so hard in a while. We are in the worst part of the year to fill theaters now and the full price thing is not going to help them.

The show hasn't had a discount code in a while outside of the recent Broadway week BOGO promotion. Twice they've done a 24 hour flash sale offering $79 orchestra and $49 mezz. it's shocking they currently don't have discounted tickets.

perhaps they're waiting for the tour stops to be officially announced first rather than admit " it's failing on Broadway, but coming to your town soooon"???!!!??

Yeah it's nut is in the 700s, which they usually hit. But the advance must just not be there and no reason to start losing more money.

That's their current target closing date. However, if sales don't pick up soon, it'll probably be April 14. Hence why an announcement hasn't been made yet.

June 30 was made official about 30 mins ago.
Anyway, the show had a nice run in NY. We do have the Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash bio-jukeboxes ready to cater to similar target audiences in the next season or two.
A prime musical house is now vacant for the fall… will be curious to see what takes the Broadhurst next.

There are announcements on several sites including this one and they all cite June 30 as the closing date. Of course, it can be moved up with more competition coming in.
