^ Elton John's Score for Aida was one of the best scores of the 2000's.

Thank you, papa.

I read the thread title "Alda" and assumed it was about a movie musical based on the life of the actor who played Hawkeye. Imagine my disappointment.

I've been saying Jackman as Radames for years!
#30

the danger of capital letters

Alicia Keys definitely has the singing and acting chops for Aida, as does Beyonce.

...everyone was doing the mambo and drinking golden cadillacs...
#31

the danger of capital letters

I'd still like Brittany Murphy to play Amneris.

How about Jessica Simpson for Amneris (shudders)
#33

the danger of capital letters

Christina or Anne could work as Amneris, cuz Sherie and Idina both riff and trill and do all that diva ****. Amneris is supposed to be a diva.

Beyonce and Alicia, I love, but aren't black enough. I know that sounds crazy but she's a nubian princess, she should look it.

Hugh Jackman and Adam Pascal ARE TOO OLD, they could play the dad though.

Adam Lambert could possibly be Radames if he could toned down the screach and leave the gay and eyeliner at home.

the danger of capital letters

Anne Hathaway I don't think would work as Amneris; belting issues aside (IMO), she comes across as too smart.

I'd like Anika Noni Rose to play Aida.

Actually, I LOVE the idea of Adam Lambert as Radames.

Totally swooning at the idea of Adam being Radames! LOL

Can Brittany Murphy sing?

If Zac Efron didn't want to stop doing movie musicals they would cast him as Mereb, I think.
#37

the danger of capital letters

Yup, she was Gloria in Happy Feet. You can do a YT search for her singing either "Somebody to Love" or "Boogie Wonderland" in the film.

I like Brittany Murphy, but her career is going down the drain. Most of her movies go direct to video and she's already doing Lifetime flicks and Sci Fi Channel original movies. She has a better chance of being cast in a Broadway revival of Aida than a movie version.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

True, she wouldn't be a draw by herself, but I think she'd be okay if there were big enough stars with her.

Problem is that there aren't many celebrities I know of who have a powerful enough belt for Amneris.

Would Rashida Jones be a big enough name, you think? I love her voice.

Oh, give me a break....if they make this in "Whore-li-wood" this is what the cast will look like:

AIDA: Jada Pinkett-Smith (lip-synched by Aretha Franklin and bankrolled in the part by her famous GUESS WHO)

RADAMES: David Archuleta (lip-synched by Corbin Bleu on speed with rotosynching to ensure vocal pitch is correct)

AMNERIS: Meryl Streep (lip-synched by no one and sued by the same producers who tried to have her vocals removed from the Mamma Mia soundtrack)

Can't wait for the DVD!!

I WISH Hollywood dubbed like that. :/

I'm gonna have to second heather and sherie....but i think that adam can be replaced, he makes me want to break that CD in half.

IF this did happen...what about Fantasia as Aida? I haven't seen her act but some of you have and I don't remember if she is good or not.

EDIT: and if you put Adam as Radames, why don't we just make it an all American Idol movie and have Carrie Underwood or Diana DeGarmo be Amneris?

Actually, Carrie Underwood would probably be really good vocally. Question is, could she pull off the acting? Also, I think you need at least one actor who's a Hollywood celebrity, not just AI alumni.

Heather and Sherie are too old, I think.

I'm all for Katherine McPhee as Amneris.

People would go see it just for Carrie (I would. I love her voice) but I have no idea about the acting.

I was kidding about the AI thing but I guess it would work.

AMEN! Finally someone who agrees with me1 KEEP THE OBC!

They won't keep the OBC. Name one successful movie musical in the last 20 years that kept the Broadway cast.

That's right, there are none.
