Just saw the show last night..Emily Skeggs was excellent & looked liked Kristy MacNichol circa Family
I know this is an old thread, but in light of Emily Skegg's tony nom, I thought I'd bring it back... any more info on why Alexander Socha left the show?
It's totally disrespectful to ask people to reveal personal and private things about someone, especially when they have gone to certain lengths to protect themselves. Mind your own goddamn business.
Thank you.

Not trying to spread any gossip, but I noticed that Socha tweeted (pre-Tony noms) about her involvement with the show. I hope she's doing well and look forward to seeing her in other work. She's a great performer.

Those tweets of hers sure do make things...awkward.

I think those tweets are coming from a grown up place, very mature. It doesn't seem like there's anything controversial about it.
I'm sure we will see her in the future on Broadway. She is a very captivating actress and singer. I have no idea why she left Fun Home and it's no one's business anyway. She has a rare talent and a long career ahead of her.

I understand why it's painful for her to be attached to Fun Home now. she knows if she had stayed with the show she'd probably have a Tony nomination.
Hopefully she will find another great role in the future.
Well, I mean, I know it's not my business, but I am curious. Was it her decision or the creative teams or what? That's all I'm curious about. I saw the show with her and again with Skeggs and I can't say I remember much about Socha. I'm sure she was great, as I loved the show then, but it wasn't THE performance.
No one knows what happened except for a select few. But no one leaves a lead role in a hit show mid run because they want to. Maybe she got sick, maybe they just liked Skeggs better and fired her, maybe she had a family issue and had to quit...the world will never know.
We might know if someone tells, though.
I heard it was because of her involvement with the Dark Lord Xenu.
I was wondering how Alexandra must have felt hearing about Emily's nomination.. but it doesn't matter because it's her private life. As much as I want to know why she decided to leave to, it's not our business to know.
You guys are so gossip queens!
Alexandra asked the Dark Lord Xenu to take care of Emily, so don't you worry about that. It'll be handled.
If I remember correctly she left and did that one-woman musical at Vineyard. So, whatever the reason, I'm glad the show is doing well. It's a BRILLIANT show. And I hope it's a success.

You're confusing Alexandra Socha with Alexandra Silber. Silber did the one-woman show at the Vineyard, called ARLINGTON.
I've heard that Socha's exit wasn't voluntary but I'm not interested in passing along gossip. She'll do fine in the long run. She's extremely talented and, aside from whatever happened during FUN HOME, has always had a pretty good reputation in the industry. I heard that she's doing one of the plays at Williamstown this summer, and she just did PAINT YOUR WAGON, so she's obviously getting work.
Replying to RM's comment about Socha's not being THE performance: I only saw her in the role and thought she have a very vibrant performance, especially of the song "Changing My Major to Joan." I 've enjoyed reliving that performance on the 1st cast album, and hope it won't be lost with the issuing of a new album.
What I didn't really like was Beth Malone's performance, and am scratching my head at how she got nominated as a lead but Judy Kuhn did not. That was the performance most worthy of an award when I saw the show in 2013. What about the two performances has changed since then? Does the new staging make a difference?
I think the new staging definitely makes a difference in terms of Malone being perceived as a lead. I didn't see the show at the Public, but here she feels like a constant presence and reacts to the others onstage as opposed to being merely an observer. I can only assume the new staging intensifies that feeling, which would be a lot harder to achieve in a proscenium space.

I barely remember Malone's performance at the Public, but her Broadway performance is phenomenal. The in the round staging makes her a huge part of the action and very much a lead.
Skeggs's is wonderful, but Socha's "Changing My Major" was a highlight of the show for me.
