Andrea McArdle singing "Buenos Aires"

Video of Andrea McArdle singing Buenos Aires in 1996, she performs it really well:

http://youtu.be/hCck3UqYqY0

However, she's obviously lip syncing to her actual song from her CD of the same year.

Also, huge pet peeve, she says 'Calientes', instead of 'Corrientes', why didn't anyone correct her?!

*Edited the typo on her name, oops.

Very few have lived after correcting La McArdle. This is why.

Why the hell was she not casted in the movie?? She does justice to this song and can belt it out!she sounds awesome!

In terms of bizarre Spanish mispronunciations in this song (and EVITA in general), this one barely registers. I'm more annoyed that no one thought to tell Madonna that it's not "BuenEs Aires."

Would she be a possibility as a replacement in the current revival? I'd love for them to shut the show down for two weeks a la Spiderman, revamp it and let the Eva's belt.

Because people are not 'casted' in plays, they are cast...

*Stupid auto correct*

Is she auditioning for the Lupone Lifetime Biopic?

I really love it when EVITA's belt the "AAAAAAANNNDDDD if ever i go to far" instead of mixing it or doing it in head voice. I wish they did another Evita Movie with the right cast....wishful thinking :/

One thing I did notice, that for a white girl Andrea McArdle got some junk in the trunk....

Well, Ms. McArdle did play the role regionally and most recently in Naples, Florida's TheatreZone, a 250 seat theatre located on the campus of the Community School of Naples.

And yes... Ms. McArdle chose to make HER 'Eva Perone' a red-head (yes, the 'Perone' typo is on the theatre's website, yo!):

That's actually not a typo. "Peón" means laborer, so the sign reads something like "Laborers' Union."

I always cringe at Elaine's "Calientes, Noovay de Julio" and Julie's "Daycamisados."

Andrea does some really great quality regional work. Is she blacklisted in New York or something?

If there is ONE thing I like about Elena Roger is that she pronounces Rio De La Plata, Florida, Corrientes and Nueve de Julio....CORRECTLY!

Oh and Bwe Nos I Res!!!

Somewhat like someone starting a thread about Andrea McArdle and spelling her name incorrectly.

In that last photo, she looks a weensy bit like Miss Coco Peru.

I was going to joke that I'd prefer to see her as Annie. But then I realized that I'd REALLY like to see her as Hannigan.

"Have you ever gotten gin in your eye, Annie? It burns!"
#22

Andrea McCardle singing

Yes, but it was Miss Coco we were picturing as Hannigan.

How about she plays Eva & when she comes out on the balcony to sing "Don't Cry For Me ..." she comes out dressed as Annie & sings Tomorrow to the crowd. Naturally Juan is played by Nathan Lane

Elaine Paige tops them all with the terrible Spanish pronunciation and not because of an accent--that's normal--but for saying something waaaay off from what was actually meant.

She starts off fine, with your standard accent:

"Ree-oh! Deh lah blah-tah!"

Then it all just goes wrong from there. XD

"Flour-ee-doh! Cogentes nuov-o day ooo-eee-oh!"

Julie Covington's "daycamisados" is grating for how simple it is to correct but nobody ever thought to which means nobody looked into any of that beforehand! That's where authenticity is important. Even today, nobody cares about stuff like that and it takes an actual Argentinian to do it justice, lol. Instead they obsess with making realistic, naturalistic scenery and making everything all so tangoey and latino and blah, blah, blah. Snore...

Props to Patti LuPone for not only rocking the sh*t out of this score but for actually saying those Spanish lines in "Buenos Aires" so well, I remember wondering if she was Hispanic herself!
