On Broadway the show is going to be called 'Bad Cinderella.'
Currently, the third song in the musical is called 'Bad Cinderella' and ALW makes the show sound more like 'Wicked.'

Thank goodness he still believes in truth in advertising.

thank god I read this between sips of coffee LMAO.
This does sound like catnip for critics who dislike the show, but at least is more interesting than just calling it Cinderella.
Is it a sequel to Bad Santa? Or Bad Boys?
(Has this been announced or is it a scoop?)
He's just begging for this to flop, isn't he?
Very very very dangerous. Audiences and reviewers will love to jump on the cheap ‘Bad Cinderella’ pun and say the show is just ‘Bad’.

Source? Because I’ve heard a different title.
regardless of whatever they're calling it this week, when does it open, and when do previews start?
I can already see the article review titles now..

I can specifically hear Michael Musto going "Well, the thing about BAD Cinderella is, are you really going to make me say it?"
Just rename it The Phantom of the Opera until the cheap version debuts in a few years.

Mine as well make it Flop Cinderella. When I think of ALW, I think of very full orchestrations and beautiful melodies, not this hot mess of a show. It feels so empty and just not necessary. No one asked for or wants to see this show on Broadway
I saw this maybe 5x and always found more to like than to dislike in it. The show is going to live or die in NY based on the casting, which is something I hope they realize.
I always assumed the reason the creative team didn’t call it Bad Cinderella in London was because they knew critics would run with that if they didn’t like it. It was risky to even give a song that title. I don’t see a reason to change the title. It was always marketed as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella. That already sets it apart from other versions.
Yeah def a risky name. I just hope they revamp it design wise. It looked so cheap.
I wonder whats happening with Once Upon A One More Time
I say that because **assuming** this, OUAOMT, and &Juliet all play in the same season..it feels like overkill on "kinda" the same type of show
I think the critical reception the show received in the UK makes them feel a bit more confident in calling it "Bad Cinderella" (if that's in fact the case).
Very curious about what other changes are being made/discussed - particularly since if I remember correctly there were other producers involved that it's not a solely RUG production

It's like that tv show Nathan For You, where he created a coffee shop that was an exact replica of a Starbucks and called it "Dumb Starbucks"
I think “Bad Cinderella” would help the show resolve a few issues it had on the West End. People will surely know it’s not the Cinderella they would expect, and gives the show a bit more context as to what it’s all about.

I think the best alternative Cinderella title ever was Cindy-Ella (Or I've Got Shoe) -196@'s British musical starring Cleo Laine. I used to have the final version but foolishly purge them all when I thought vinyl is gone forever.
I know that the show received mostly favorable reviews in London (including from the NYT), but just imagine a retitled Bad Cinderella getting torn to smithereens by NY critics. Not that I wish for it to happen, but there’ll most likely be “bad” puns galore.
I already see at least one review saying “So Bad It’s Good” in that case.

I mean Some Like It Hot could easily be reviewed as Some Like It Lukewarm if the show is felt to lack enough vigor (seems like that won't be the case).
I get the concern raised about "Bad", but critics don't really need to leverage a double entendre in order to effectively lampoon a show. They will find a way and the words that make producers wince.
And Bad Cinderella certainly lets you know this is not the typical story you might expect. The graphic design treatment of Bad could reinforce that message effectively.

Exactly. On the UK boards The Devil Wears Prada has already been dubbed The Devil Wears Primark (which is a low cost clothing store in the UK) ahead of a potential London run.
People will twist titles for anything.
