Are there any shows that have offended you?
Like, some people I know were offended by Assassins.

I have always gotten the impression that Assassins is a show that devides people. It is the show that first comes to mind when people discuss "Love/Hate Shows." Meaning shows that people either love or hate with equal passion.
I can't remember any shows that truley offended me. There are shows I haven't liked, but I would not say they offended me.
Assassins offends people that think of it as a piece about killing the President, which on the surface it is about, but if you go beneath the surface, it's a very human piece. It's about much more than that.

The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public

The Life
For glorifying prostitution in a tasteless and unrealistic way. The former made it all so stupid and the latter was the fantasies of three old white guys.
Hated them and was mad at the creators and felt bad for the actors.
I was offended by Spring Awakening. I hope musical theatre isn't turning to that. A cheap rip off of another bad musical currently running.
Corpus Christi
And well, Equus didn't sit well with me either.

Spring Awakening is hardly a recreation of Rent if that is what you are emplying...it is a beautiful fresh new musical story line( since it was a play first I suppose it is not new writing) the music is beautiful and moving and the story is something that every teenager can relate to in some way and is very effective in its ability to pull you in and take you on a journey...I dont mind that you didnt like it but to say it is distastful or a copy you are wrong!!

What about Corpus Christi offended you?
It seems like a lot of mothers or parents get offended by the smallest things in plays. "I don't want my kids seeing Curtains because the use chairs to represent penises." Ridiculous.
Well, to being with, I am a teenager and I don't relate to Spring Awakening at all. And you can't *really* say that it's ok that someone has a negative opinion but then tell them that the opinion you said was ok is wrong.
I mean I'm just saying.
I'm also curious re: Equus.
was it the nudity?
uh, MAMMA MIA!
I wouldn't exactly say Equus "offended" me but it just made me uncomfortable. I still think it's a great work though.

How on Earth can you be offended by MAMMA MIA?
I was offended by that show in Spider Man 3. It was a slap in the face to the musical theatre.
Anna - same here. I saw Spring Awakening 3 months after I turned 17, so pretty much the core age group that is being represented with the show.
Though I can expressly say without hesitation, like you, I did not in any way identify with the characters' plights, I did think the show was great, and truly thought the talent level being represented by such young performers was REMARKABLE.
Sitting through "The Rat King" yesterday offended me simply because it was horrible.
My friend and her mother left during The Wedding SInger because of language and vugarity.
I know someone who walked out of Rent for that very same reason, theactorsociety.

I sat next to two women at Young Frankenstein who gasped and were shocked when Roger Bart squeaked "Ohhhhhhhhh fuuck!" during a scene. Seriously. Two and a half hours of dick jokes and panty flashes and you're appalled by an f-bomb?
Call me crazy, but I think you should know whether or not a show contains material that you will find offensive before you go.

But, it was MEL BROOKS. What were they expecting? Disney?
strangely enough, a lot of people do not know who mel brooks is.

Actually I retract my earlier statement. Grease is probably the show I was most offended by.
You never do know what people will get offended by. A girl I know was completely offended by The History Boys and The Producers because of all the sexuality, but she LOVES Spring Awakening and RENT. Another person I know is offended by Grease because of the teen pregnancy, but Spring Awakening is not a big deal. Now, I know we've established that a lot of teenagers respond to SA, but to me it's strange to be offended by GREASE but not SA.
I dunno I dunno.
A LOT of people get offended by chicago.
