FYI, the first 2 episodes of season 2 are live now.

Two episodes into Season 2 and this is musical parody EXCELLENCE!
Thoughts:
Dove Cameron is absolutely delish.
I’m living for all the 60s and 70s musical theatre references, but there’s also a tiny echo of Parade IMO. I’m kinda hoping Melissa and Josh bust into a “This Is Not Over Yet” pastiche later on when hope springs eternal, though he is still behind bars, but we can’t have everything we want.
Gotta love Jane Krakowski explaining her life in initials! “LBJ took the IRT…”
Aaron Tveit’s high C! Also, golden opportunity missed to not have him say, “Like it or not, they got me” when he gets placed in the jail cell with Josh.
The old lady with a vodka stinger in her hand proclaiming “I’ll drink to that!” GENIUS. Also, the “You Could Drive a Person Crazy” spoof is divine, and the whole crew sipping on vodka stingers backstage? Adorable. Steve would’ve grinned from ear to ear.
The “Big Spender” send-up gave me life.
All the female cabaret ladies are named after Annie and her fellow orphans! YES!!!
That whole Chorus Line sequence, punctuating in Melissa using her driver’s license as her headshot! Hahahahaha.
Patrick Page is just as sinister as he was in Hadestown. Couldn’t ask for anything more.
Did anyone else notice the underscoring of “Suddenly” from the first season, when Cecily Strong and Jaime Camil conversed in the dressing room?
Any reference to “Corn Puddin’” never fails to put a smile on my face.
My only other minor qualm about this season is that the creators couldn’t find a way to get the young boy who played Carson to play somebody else (an Oliver! type came to my mind). He really grew on me those final few episodes of Season 1.
I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. Is it next Wednesday yet?!?!
Season 2 is even better than season 1. It clips right along and leaves you wanting more. Tituss Burgess is outstanding! Such a pleasure to watch.
These first two episodes are really a quick and delightful watch. Everybody is firing on all cylinders, the humor is sharper, and the roles seem far more tailored to each performer than they were in season 1. Keegan Michael-Key’s character is also far more likable, since he no longer acts as the “ugh why is everybody singing, musicals are dumb” voice. It really helps with the tone of the show to have him on board with what’s going on around him rather than negging it.

Watched the first 2 episodes last night and am excited to see how the story progresses. The buzz is great and the reviews are positive. Would have loved Apple+ to give Cinco a few more episodes this round. But I am happy to have this group back and hope we don't have to wait 2 years for a season 3.
Loving every second of this new season. Does anyone know what Patrick Page’s character is based on, though?
I also now kinda want to see Dove as Sally Bowles.

I wondered that too. All of the actors are just nailing it! I love that some of the characters are a mish mash from several musicals. Kad’s observation on Keegan’s character is spot on. I even went back and watched some of the numbers a second time. Ann Harada is a national treasure.
Watching Harada, I said “I want to see her Lovett”.

He doesn’t seem to (yet) have a 1:1 comparison, but seems Judge Turpin-ish.

Apparently I'm the OPPOSITE of Melissa because I got all of the references this season so far. I can't wait for the JCS references to start. Also, damn, that infertility storyline hit hard.
One thing, though: who is the cop based on? I read Javert in an article, but Javert is from the 1980s British spectacle musical era, not the 1970s.

Kristin Chenoweth was on ''Late Night With Seth Meyers'' and gave a sneak peek at her work in Season 2 of ''Schmigadoon!'' Love it! She also dished about the 20th anniversary of ''Wicked'' and singing the praises about (and for) Carol Burnett.

Marc Bonanni of Broadway by Ghostlight returns to break down all the Easter eggs and theater references in Episode 1 of ''Schmicago.'' Did Marc miss any? (Needless to say, this video should be viewed only AFTER you've seen the debut show.)

I was on the fence with season one, but this has been amazing so far! Its like an escape room for theater geeks, that I dont want to leave!

Here's another ''Schmigadoon!'' podcast that recaps many of the musical Easter eggs: Emily Clark and Jeff Scot Carey of Stealing Focus. Their ''Schmiganalysis'' for Episode 2 has a special guest: Ann Harada, who plays Madam Frau. Ann offers insights and annotates the fun and filming of the Apple TV+ show.

Season 2 Episode 3
The gift that keeps on giving. Kristin was sublime and Jane pulled out all of the stops.
I finally figured out how to let the credits roll without getting cut off 5 seconds in.
JANE KRAKOWSKI DESERVE AN ARMFUL OF EMMYS FOR THAT NUMBER AND IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO FINISH THIS EPISODE BECAUSE I KEPT REWINDING!
It gave “Big Spender”, “Roxie”, “Dance 10, Looks 3”, “Razzle Dazzle”, “We Both Reached For The Gun”, “Hot Honey Rag”, and that AMAZING patter in the style of “Getting Married Today” for the closing argument.
The talent of Jane, Cinco Paul, and Christopher Gatelli for that number knocked my world off its axis
So Patrick Page’s character is definitely a Judge Turpin parody… as well as a Caiaphas parody!
What a great episode! And it really makes you wonder why Krakowski’s never been Roxie. Or why Cumming’s never been Sweeney. Or why Cheno has never been Hannigan or Lovett.

Cinco Paul won an Emmy for ''Corn Pudding'' from Season 1 of ''Schmigadoon!,'' but I would've just as happy if he won for ''Cross That Bridge'' and ''With All of My Heart.'' This season, he's really scored with ''Kaput'' from Episode 1, and''Bustin' Out'' and ''My Doorway to Where'' from Episode 2. However, ''Bells and Whistles'' in Episode 3 might just take the cake. I also rewound it a few times. And there's still 3 more episodes to go. It'll never happen, but ''Schmigadoon!'' could fill ALL the nomination slots for the next Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics.
I think Company is getting a nod by the character actress who is always drinking.

Yes, but it’s also gotten a few shout outs with Krakowski’s character being named Bobby as well as her patter section during this week’s big song.

I was getting Caiaphas vibes before this episode but figured it was just the voice. But the line at the end “two birds with one stone” was definitely “this Jesus must die”!
I'm not loving these episodes. Nice that they are incorporating bits of different musicals but not clever enough or even actually funny (except for the "I'll Drink To That" lady). And enough with the eye-rolling from Strong and Key. For every number I keep thinking: "stop trying so hard".
I just love the double meaning of "The Worst Brats in Town," first sung by Chenoweth about her despised orphans, then by Cumming as he ponders his meat.
Cinco Paul outdoes that brilliant Sondheim send-up with a patter verse for Krakowski in the jury during "Bells and Whistles." Bless this day, pinnacle of joy.
The nonsensical intro to the hippies' song riffs on "Good Morning Starshine" but also incorporates some Grease characters. HA!
Did anyone else notice some notable composers' names listed on some of the Schmicago buildings at the beginning of today's episode?
Just brilliant.
