Second, reviews are embargoed until Monday, I believe. So you won’t see anything tonight."
This is getting CRAZY. Ive heard the producers think it's a good idea so that they can have a 'quiet' evening, but it is a definite buzz killer for folks like me. I'm old and old fashioned, but I actually have looked forward to 10 PM on opening night to see what the critics think.
WHY even have an opening night -- previews started weeks ago (at the same price as after opening night). Just announce when the show is 'frozen' and have as many parties as you want.
And it's even more crazy that the media tolerates this. Why -- so they can get a free ticket to the show? I know these are 'interesting' times -- but imagine if comments on the State of the Union address were embargoed for two days so that the President and his friends could have a nice evening. Or noone printed a critique of the Super Bowl for 48 hours after the end of the game. Just nuts.
The media should BUY their own tickets, and print their opinions any time they want.
So does that mean midnight embargo on Monday / print reviews run on Monday?
It's pretty unusual for a show to open on a Saturday night.

An arbitrary embargo like that does not inspire confidence.
In Chicago I felt it was never clear a) who Betty Boop was or b) what she wants. To the extent that the script comments on this directly. They also refused to commit to a conflict. She faces no obstacles in act one. Then a series of little ones in act two that are quickly overcome. It was really shoddy story telling. And I'm one of those grumps who can't appreciate something that's "just fun" if it isn't at least coherent.

No, looks your mother. Handsome woman. Her name - Frau Blucha ?
Regarding the reviews of the show this is what Andrew Gans posted today on Playbill.com
BOOP! The Musical officially opens its Broadway premiere run at the Broadhurst Theatre April 5, but reviews don't release until April 7.

Also still trying to confirm that the show started at 6:30PM this evening. Was anyone there?:)

Is Monday a day of less readership or something? What could be the point of an embargo like that?
Yes, the show started at 6:30 tonight. (It being an opening probably means it started more like 6:45)
Monday would theoretically have MORE readership than Saturday night.
As far as print goes, the NYT will not print reviews on Sunday (the arts section went to print days ago). Other print publications might be the same.
Since the pandemic there’s been a lot more fluidity with opening nights and embargoes. Some shows have been doing a “gala night” in advance of the technical opening, with the embargo lifting on a different random day.
So, I’d say it doesn’t matter.
Everyone involved with marketing and producing the show has a much better time at the party when the reviews DON’T come out that night, whether they are good or bad.
Perhaps it’s Saturday that means less readership.
Again, I’m not expecting this to get outright panned.
So if the show started at 6:30 tonight the person trashing the show saying they were on their way for the opening was indeed not at the opening and their whole schtick on here has been nothing but BS from the word go?

That would conflict with the launch of their non-equity tour that will surely be launching by then.

"On the way into the theater genius detective! Who is obsessed now? 6th row aisle! Solid performance tonight! Usual opening night audience cheering every song. Jerry looked nervous and uncomfortable. Foster played it super cool surrounded by family.

You posted that above quote at 7:22 pm, aka 35 minutes into Act One. Oh, and now you are posting from the party? I know where the party was, do you?? Please tell us. I will even make it multiple choice for you:
a. Bryant Park Grill
b. Tavern on the Green
c. Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers
d. Cipriani
e. Gotham Hall
f. Marriott Marquis Ballroom

6:30PM show time and still posting here at 6:54 and 7:22PM. I’m not obsessed but just calling out your BS. Here you are trashing a show that at this point it’s even doubtful you have seen.
7:22PM You actually said “Have to go show starting soon.”
i hope others on here call you out as well.

You are absolutely correct. He thought he was clever but is too dumb to know that openings start at earlier times. And whoever posted that a 6:30 curtain will really start at 6:45 is absolutely correct. His whole story is blown. I don’t post on here much, but had to jump on to call out this annoying person’s BS.

Is there a reason why the mods won't ban this person? Unending trashing of this show which I'm convinced this person has never seen isn't new here but the relentlessness is annoying.

My whole life I was always against anyone being outed but tonight that has all changed. This person has some deep issues that need to be addressed. The obsession with this show probably just being the tip of the iceberg.

Everyone should listen to Kad about this individual. I actually blocked them, which I have never done on this site, but it’s not helping because people keep responding.

In theory that was fine but when we now know they have been caught about not telling the truth they need to be called out. If nothing was said they would just continue. This way they will vanish and come back in a day or two with a completely new identity.
Their behavior on here is beyond reprehensible.
I'll make it easy again: there's the link to block.
This is somebody who has spent the last 4+ months doing nothing but nearly exclusively bashing this show, in threads he's started, in unrelated threads, all over the board. This is a classic textbook troll. You will not reason with him, you will not shame him, and it doesn't matter if he's caught in lies. There is no shaming him. Just silence him and let Boop have their moment.
If he's accomplished anything, it's that I'm now rooting for Boop to get unanimous raves.
This Booper makes the "Maybe Happy Ending is a cute date night musical comedy that plagiarized the Korean production" person look subtle.

Even more reason the mods need to ban this person.
In spite of some of the other attention-seeking Boop bombardment that has plagued these boards, I encourage you all to take a peek at a particularly interesting “theatre influencer” review (if you can call it that) I got a big laugh out of today.
