I'd like to see that!
With all of the productions of SUPERMAN going around, do you think this could mean a possible revival??
Generally a revival of a flop won't happen.
Having said that, it might work now with the forthcoming Spiderman in the future. The original, which was a lot of fun, got really decent reviews but simply did not catch on.
Some of it is dated & the PC police would have a problem with the Oriental acrobats being the bad guys & the terrorist (now) angle with the explosion that ended Act 1. These could very easily be changed to a multi racial acrobatic team & Dr Sedgewick making the object vanish instead
I for one would love to see it with Cheyenne Jackson or Bob Cuccioli playing Superman. Chenowith could play Sydney. Stokes could play the Max character or have Cassidys son do it
I thought DeLaria would be Perry White, what else could she play?
The cooch is too old for Supe, but Cheyenne should be great.
Saw the show as a kid. Loved the multi-level comic book page complete with BAM ZAPPS. Such a takeoff on Batman which was on TV that year.
The hardest thing to revive would be Jack Cassidy (and by revive, I mean his character and performance. The poor b*****d died so horribly....) He was just wonderful as Max. A butch version of Nathan Lane (well, not THAT buch) and just so charismatic. I just felt I was watching aguy who LOVED what he was doing ("We're going home, Abner....").
Fond memories.....

I actually just got tickets for this show. I am very excited. Has anyone seen these shows before? Are they performed as a concert? Do they where costumes? I looked at a picture of the theatre and it looks small. Still, I am verrrry excited :)
Bean is 100 percent wrong for that role.
Overhauling the book might be impossible -- it was always thin and fairly strained whenever it had to push the plot. Better to keep the characters and relationships and create a new one, if that's possible. The stuff in the office remains the best part of the Strouse score -- I still love "We Don't Matter At All" and the title song. And besides the current commercial using "Possibilities," did anyone else grow up in Washington, DC and remember the actual overture as recorded on the OBC as the theme? I believe it was CBS, and generally the eleven PM edition. .

Bobby,
Bean could be cast as herself in a show about her life story, and you would STILL say she's wrong for the role, so it's hard to take you seriously. We get it. You don't like her.
Anyways, this is pretty exciting. Anything with Cheyenne Jackson in it make my heart pound just a tad faster =)
Yay Cheyenne. He's so damn sexy!
I am so planning on seeing this!
Wrong, my friend. She really is wrong for the role.
I don't know the part, and most people are surprised to hear me say anything positive about a Wicked cast member who isn't Kristin Chenoweth or Christopher Fitzgerald, but I love Shoshana Bean. Looove. Whatever happened to her CD?
Maybe they could put Jimmy Olson in during a rewrite
with a song
Always wondered how you could have Superman & no Jimmy Olson
Shoshana is working on her cd. I am not sure about release though.
Picture this: Shoshana "riff-omatic" Bean in the role originated by Linda Lavin.
To quote Elaine Stritch
"WRONG!"
Shoshana doesn't only do riffing though. She is certainly capable of doing more if the role calls for it.
Chenowith in the Lavin role but it will not happen
Yes, but she does not have the voice for traditional musical theatre.
I see where you're coming from, but wasn't she trained in classical theatre? I'm sure she can use her CCM training..
However if she chooses not to approach the role the way you say it should be done (and I trust you because I don't know the show anyway) then it will not be good at all.
Even if she were trained in musical theatre, it doesn't mean it was a good program. Her acting skills, to me, are even worse than the Menzel wanna-be stuff she attempts so often.
i got my ticket for this on the Sunday afternoon performance. does anyone know how they do stage door at York Theatre? i've only ever been once and i waited a bit but wasn't sure which way anyone comes out.
I couldn't agree with you more, Bobby. I can hear it already:
"YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU'VE GOOOOOOOOOOOTT POSS-A-BIL-IT-IE-S, MAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYBEEEEEEEEEEEE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET-S THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYE"
I saw SUPERMAN (OBC) and have absolutely no recollection of the score or the libretto. I have seen many flops in my day, but SUPERMAN is the most forgettable show that I have ever seen. I wish them well, though.
my two favorite people cheynne and shosh yesss i love them
