I've always wondered - Elphaba is a green person witha black pointy hat and black robes.

Hmmm....I remember people painting their faces green, wearing such attire, for many years before Wicked.

So now the getup has an official name?

I believe it was the Wicked Witch of the West before...probably still is, for non-Wicked fans.

My little sister - who lives in St. Louis - is being Elphaba. I keep tring to explain to her that no ones going to get it. She's just going to be the Wicked Witch of the West to everyone in Missouri. She was adamant though. They emailed me a pic today. I convinced her not to wear the school uniform, which is a plus, but she is wearing glasses with the black dress and cape, which she doesn't do. Apparently she didn't really pay attention during the show. Whatever - shes 10!

I have nothing against Wicked, but, yeah, I was wondering that also. Why are people being "Elphaba" for Halloween? Why can't you just call it a witch? Elphie is green and wears black just as your traditional witch does.

Elphaba wear a black cape in the show.

but it's not like the cape in the Wizard of Oz...

ok i don't think that i really matters if people understand who you are. i was mimi from RENT this year and one person knew who i was. you are just supposed to dress up for fun.

A girl on the floor above me was dressed as the generic "wicked witch" but when I saw her I was like "AHH IT'S IDINA MENZEL!" and all the theatre majors laughed. HAHA

i was glinda for halloweeeeen!!!

i wore the pink dress she wears during popular and the second part of dancing through life! it was soooo cool. two people guessed glinda from the original movie (dont know why, if the only thing the dresses have in common is that they're both pink) two other people guessed glinda from wicked. everyone else thought i was a fairy without wings, a sweet sixteen girl, a model (pff yea right) or a salsa dancer....but it was total success nonetheless!!!

My friend was Nessa for Halloween...i KNOW no one got that...i didnt get it until she pointed out the shoes. And the whole being green, pointy hat thing came from the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz, so if ur being that u are technically being elphaba...so to wicked fans you may be elphaba and to the rest you are a wicked witch...its like killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Yep, I agree. I know tons of people for years who've gone as things from the Wizard of Oz, and Dorothy and the Witch were always the most common. But if you want to call it going as Elphie, go right ahead. The pointy hat and such is the classic witch attire.

I actually went as Elphaba, and my younger sister was Glinda. I wore the school uniform because I didn't want people to think I was "just a witch." My sister wore the costume from the opening and closing numbers. A few people got it. The real excitement was making the costumes. I made them myself with a little help from my sister. It was a lot of fun. I will try to post pictures if I can.

My best [male] friend Chris went as Glinda, and I was the Wicked Witch. We got a lot of compliments - more for him re: Being Elphaba for Halloween - real creative

actually I was (still technically am, still wearing the costume and waiting to go out) Cinderella...its like a 7 year old girls costume which we altered the chest of, but like 4 or 5 people at this club in Boston last nite thought I was Glinda from Wicked..

I had a Broadway themed halloween party...and my friend asked me to go as Elphaba because she was going as Glinda...so I guess in this situation (A Broadway themed party) it is ok to be "Elphaba" and not just the Wicked Witch...maybe?

I said I was Elphaba and I wore like regular clothing. If i had the pointy black hat and robes I would say I was the wicked witch of the west. I think people should only say they are Elphaba if they wear one of her outfits before she is "wicked".

I went as Glinda in Popular and DTL which was fun. IN the spring for Cabaret (its like a tribute to Broadway) my friend and I are performing What is This Feeling and Defying Gravity- because no one @ my school has heard of Wicked-yes, i know- and then i am being Elphaba because i have the better range and a very cool black dress ^^

My little sis went as a green-skinned witch, and I yelled at her after she told me that her friend went as Glinda. Why? One thing, they didn't go together (family crisis, I later learned).

Like anyone would have gotten the Wicked reference.

hey princessofpgh, lol, i cant tell you my sn on mcbc, lol, i dont REALLY mind all the elphabas, i just hate the whole teenage wicked=mecca thing, like none of them know any other broadway show other than that, and then you have the 600 teeangers who are like, "i saw wicked once, i liked it I love idina menzel, she was good, i'm her biggest fan." like WHAT, where did you get that conclusion, it pisses me off, i really dont like people dressing up as elphie unless they like know the show, and prefer it to other shows, you know, because i also know these peeps who dressed up as elphie and glinda because it was "in" UGH!

I went as Elphaba for Halloween-but obviously knew that no one would get that I'm not just the Wicked Witch--so I went in her school uniform. Lots of people "got it" since I go to music school, so it was no problem. Hope these pictures work.
