Toast - I would try putting your converse in the Dishwasher if you have one... plus they also have shoe whitener which I think you might be able to find at sneaker stores.
To elaborate on why I think Lansbury is the greatest- she can sing, she can dance, she can act, yes. She does all three expertly. And you really love her too. Yes, we all love Chita and Patti and Christine and Gwen and The Merm, but when an actress can make you really adore a character as terrible as Mrs. Lovett, she's the best. Lansbury did that. Lansbury is the best.
"jv, I've adored every Mrs. Lovett I've ever seen. I believe that's part of the fun of SWEENEY."
Depite the fact that I loved Patti in the role, I didn't want to give her Mrs. Lovett a big hug at the end. I did want to hugh Lansbury's Lovett. It's very easy for an actress to make Mrs. Lovett unlikeable, I think.
HOLY HELL! I'd buy new ones long before I went through all this trouble!!! ENJOY!
==============================
Step One - Remove the laces and any inserts from the shoes.
Step Two - Throw the laces in with a load of laundry, and then let them air-dry.
Step Three - Mix up a solution of mild soap and water (dishwashing soap or Ivory soap flakes work well). If the shoes are very heavily soiled, you might want to buy a cleaner specifically designed for athletic shoes instead. Check the bottle's label to make sure it is appropriate for all the materials--whether nylon, leather, vinyl, canvas or rubber--your shoes are made of.
Step Four - With a soft-bristle brush and the soapy water or shoe cleaner, clean the inserts and the shoes, inside and out. Then use clean water to rinse the shoes and the inserts well with clean water.
Step Five - Wipe off the excess moisture with paper towels.
Step Six - With paper towels, stuff the shoes to soak up moisture and preserve their shape.
Step Seven - Place the shoes and the inserts on a waterproof surface in a well-ventilated room to dry, replacing the paper towels if necessary as they become soaked through.
Step Eight - Put the laces and the inserts back into the shoes once all the parts are completely dry.
Step Nine - Sprinkle a bit of baking soda inside the shoes to keep them smelling fresh.
Step Ten - Allowing your shoes to dry out thoroughly between wearings will lengthen their life considerably.
