Musical:  A Strange Loop, in terms of the sophistication of the work, although it personally was not my cup of tea; have not yet seen Maybe Happy Ending, so that may displace

Play:  Leopoldstadt or Fat Ham

Musicals
Loved:  Maybe Happy Ending followed by Kimberly Akimbo
Okay: Suffs, The Outsiders and then Teeth. 
Disliked:  Swept Away, Hell's Kitchen and then Water for Elephants.
*Strange Loop would win if I could add 2019.

Primary Trust, Oh Mary, Fat Ham, Stereophonic, Kristina Wong-Sweatshop Overlord, POTUS and last ... but still great - Jaja's African Hair Braiding

Seconding Oratorio… I’d sell my soul for a cast recording. As for play, it’s a tossup between Downstate (though its first US production was back in 2018!) and You Will Get Sick.

Oh man, “You Will Get Sick” absolutely is right up there with best play this decade.

"Appropriate" was first produced in New York in 2014.  This decade's production was a revival.

Musical: Water for Elephants (runner-up: Suffs)

Play: Leopoldstadt (runner-up: The Hills of California)

The Sunset Blvd. revival beats all of them by a mile, though.
