Darn! I chose to see City of Angels instead. Any hope for a Nik Walker/Jordan Danica for Stone/Stein??? Please!

He's played that role before, at Riverside Theatre in Florida, and I had the pleasure of playing in the orchestra for it! It was a wonderful production, and Beth came down to see it and couldn't have been sweeter!

I saw somewhere online today someone actually upset about the supporting cast, that in a normal case these roles would be filled by regional actors, not "stars" like this case. An interesting point.

Because directing summer stock at the Ogunquit Playhouse is every "nepo baby" director's dream career start?

Maggie has been directing for quite some time. She was Associate Director of the Bartlett Sher Broadway revival of MY FAIR LADY and had directed quite a bit of high profile regional theater productions at the Geffen and The Muny.

Ruthie Anne as Irene is part of the embarrassment of riches here, but what's not to love? Imagine her "Ribbons Down My Back."

Beth Leavel is a terrific Dolly. She looks and sounds magnificent in this role. Her comedic chops are on full display especially in the turkey/ dumplings scene and she brings the heart to all her Horace / Ephraim / matchmaker moments.
Adam Heller brings the grumpy to Vandergelder but there is no denying that he and Beth have a chemistry whether when dancing, dining or inducing wide grins on our faces.
Matt Doyle is so sweet as the lead clerk looking for love. Ruthie Ann Miles seems to be having a great time especially in the comedic moments. I wish I were able to snap some of her facial expressions during that dress shop scene. Of course her “Ribbons Down My Back” was a crowd roaring highlight. Such a pretty song and brilliantly conveyed. I do hope they change her hat though as the ribbons on it were not right and there seemed to be too much decoration on top of the hat almost distracting us from her. But that is literally my only nit-pick.
All of the costumes were great. Everyone started in pale pastels but by the end of the show, the pastels popped as love found its way into everyone’s life. The wigs were quite impressive too.
The sets were especially impressive. You get:
Vandergelder’s store on multiple levels
Mrs. Malloy’s hat shop
The Harmonia Gardens restaurant with the grand staircase
The Yonkers train station with moving and rotating train and a moving wooden horse with carriage
The Courtroom
All such a feast for the eyes.
All the dancers were just perfect. The women in drag posing as waiters during The Waiter’s Gallop were a delightful surprise and just as good as their male counterparts. The leaps and flexibility shown in such a small stage space was just phenomenal.
I believe this production would be a hit on Broadway. Strong direction. Amazed it was the third preview. I’m still grinning. Just Go. Go. Go!

Ogunquit casts are typically all New York/Broadway actors. And it’s not like Beth and Matt Doyle and Ruthie Ann are “famous” despite being Tony winners — they’re jobbing actors like everyone else.

Yes. We caught this recently. It's a cute enough Dolly - but if you saw it at the MUNY with Beth, you saw the better directed and choreographed production.
The Ogunquit summer stock version is typical Dolly with a nice cast but is not any more interesting than what you would see anywhere else in the country. A fine enough diversion, if you need an outing, but it does not need a life beyond the ME venue, Beth and Matt or not. It's typical summer stock Dolly.
