I'd rather see Britney do this than see Kristin Chenoweth mug her way through yet another role...

Cor blimey! Britney wants Eliza role
Britney Spears has set her sights on Broadway and is considering the role of Eliza Doolittle in a revival of My Fair Lady.
The pop star would have to work with a dialect coach to get rid of her Southern accent and replace it with a cockney one, then learn to speak upper class English.
The pop star is also hoping to follow in Halle Berry's footsteps and become the next Bond girl. She's even had meetings with Bond producers trying to convince them to cast her as the sexy villain.

I think this si an okay idea. It could be a lot worse, although jessica simpson would be so much more interesting in my opinion. Spears has actually been off broadway playing the lead in ruthless the musical circa late 80's. I heard a recording and she was pretty good. I vote for a more alto role for her though. Hmmm, 5-10 years ago she might've been a good little red in into the woods. actually she would do that really well in my opinion. Still Jessica Simpson, at least she could maybe sing it.
But as Eliza?? Let her be in RENT, I wouldn't care, but please not My Fair Lady. Updated On: 3/24/04 at 06:53 PM

Britney has the most darling figure! She would look GREAT in the period costumes and that's really what counts anyway!

HOLY SH*T! Is the The end of the world so near?!
I think it is the end of the world - I don't understand how she (or anyone else) thinks that she can sing this role? You have to have a legit voice - Brit is no Julie Andrews and never will be - and really I think physically she is all wrong
We can only hope this will never come to pass
I like Britney, shes a great entertainer, not a great singer. Ive seen worse people in starring roles. Give her a shot.
So, if she's not a "great singer" then how could she pull this roll off?

Alright, I'll pretend to take this seriously for a second-
Of the two leads in My Fair Lady, Henry Higgins is the one where I can picture putting a "star" who isn't much of a singer. Higgins can talk-sing his way through, but Eliza has to be sung, and sung well. Forget acting ability- does Spears even have the range for the role?
If Spears wants to get back into musical theater, she should put aside her ego and try a less demanding role first.

Some people are just so darn disrespectful!
You guys get way to upset over stuff that doesn't matter.
But we are theatre people...of course it matters

Broadway needs to just roll out the red carpets for Brit..oh wait...NO!!! EVERYONE is throwing up! Not red anymore, and NO ONE is attending "My Fair Lady! Poor Henry Higgins and Broadway! Just You Wait, you'll be sorry but your tears will be too late!
hmmm Do you think they'll have a big dance break in the show with flashy lights and a provacative dressed Eliza Doolittle? hahahah Eliza Doolittle gone wild. haha jp! I don't think broadway is Britney Spear's place. It seems kinda unlike her. oh well, we'll see what happens.

Britney obviously believes she will be allowed to lip sync to Marni Nixon's vocals in the hopes of being Audrey 2.
i would see her but i wouldn't except much. hey shows need a big name now adays to make money.

Come now, Namo. Audrey was a genuine movie star at the time she made My Fair Lady, a luminous screen presence, and a good actress with musical theater background. She wasn't a bad singer, either, but she wasn't quite up to singing Eliza. I wouldn't equate her to some pop princess. (My apologies if you're being sarcastic. I'm so tired it's flying over my head.)
OMIGOD!!!! YIKES!!!!!!!
...and who's to play Prof. 'enry 'iggins???? Ben Affleck?!!!!!!
I'm really shocked at the people who want Britney to get a chance. Britney is a good entertainer, she's hot as all hell, and she's a wonderful dancer, but Broadway material she ain't. And I think we all know that here.
Like someone else said, if she really has the passion and desire to do Broadway, let her start at another role. She may have the chops, who knows? But it's too much of a risk to let Britney Spears open with My Fair Lady as Eliza Doolittle, one of the best loved roles in Musical Theater. It's completely out of the question for me.

Ok. I have to chime in here. I am opening in My Fair Lady as Eliza next week, so I have a deep understanding of what the role requires. It's offensive and sickening to think she would get this part based on her fame. Has anyone ever heard her sing a legit note? I actually sing Loverly in my chest mix, and Show Me is mostly spoken/belt but the higher notes are legit, but the other songs are clearly legit. And the acting!! It's literally the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. It was easier giving birth to my children than develpoing Eliza.
I truly hope that this never occurs. For the integrity of the Theatre world.

I keep hoping that Hugh Grant will take on the role of Higgins. (sigh!)
