The Barrymore and Belasco theatres will likely be open this spring.

Is it possible the Kerr could be too, even though Hadestown just released a new block of tickets? Maybe they have someone big coming in?

We could add another B to that list –– the Booth. I just don't see Kim having legs to last through the dark months of January and February.

Ohio's "boost" basically puts it back to where it was in previews, since the previous frame included a comped opening night.

Ani DiFranco is joining the cast on February 9th. They were also going to have Chris Sullivan joining as Hermes at the same time but filming commitments nixed that.

As for the rest - HARMONY remains in big trouble and unless Barry & Co. want to dump some more money into the show, it’s gonna be over.

Also, DANCE is being HEAVILY papered after the polite but otherwise tepid reviews. Expect that to fold after the holidays as well. It really should’ve gone to a smaller off-Broadway house

Maybe I’m just naive, but I think it’s too late for the current best musical tony award winner to announce a January closing. It’s currently selling to June and I feel like a June closing makes sense for this show.

Pretty great week, if you are not Harmony, Ohio or KA.  I can't help thinking that its time has run out, although it would be great if it made it to summer, a la 'the little engine that could'.

My guess is Akimbo announces a late February or early March closure just after the Holidays so they can run a see last years Tony Winner before it closes campaign. 

How to Dance and Harmony on the other hand could announce any day and still hypothetically still close before years end.

It would have been announced by now. These must be rigid schedules due to availability. The Jones' next tenant is set to start previews 2 months after Gut closes.

As for Kimberly, I don't know how a June closing "makes sense" for a show that is clearly on the brink of losing money. But there's a lot that I don't understand about David Stone's producing process for this show, which has surprised us at every turn.

I'd guess Kimberly Akimbo will be a February closing with enough time for a play to come in late March previews/April opening. There's no way they keep going til June, especially when the only people who care about that show will all be seeing the onslaught of new shows coming in the Spring. 

And Hadestown may surprise me, but Ani is not going to save it. There'll be a boost in her first week of performances and then they'll go right back to where they are now. As we saw with their other recent cast changes. 

Harmony and How to Dance are really the ones that feel most certain to be making way for new shows in the Spring, and I'd also say A Beautiful Noise is probably eying a poor Winter too. The suburban audience they've relied on for their strong Fall (no doubt covering not insignificant losses they incurred all summer long) does not come into the city in January/February. They roll out a new ticket promotion every week it seems like (this week it's a $100 American Express gift card).

A Beautiful Noise did a 24 hour flash sale last week that offered $79 orchestra and $49 mezzanine seats for most dates from Dec. 19 - March 10. I'd expect a solid discount code to pop up shortly for them for the winter. Their Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday matinees are keeping them afloat for now.

I was hoping Chris was going to take over for a bit. It would’ve been fun to see him and Ani together. Bummer.

Josh previously stated he passed on an extension because of a project after Gutenberg’s 20 scheduled weeks. So most likely no and he’s probably itching to go home and see his kids before his next project. But you never know.

I still think Hadestown will push through to either Memorial or Labor Day. I think they want to make it through their 5th Anniversary in April and then they'll reconsider. It might make sense to pull out before the summer or maybe they want to bank on a summer boost. We shall see.

I'd say Hadestown doesn't cost any less than $700K/wk post-Covid. Pre-pandemic, I'd probably agree with you and say that number probably could be in the low $600s/high $500s. You also have to remember, while the cast is small, many of them are also doubling as musicians ($$$) and I'm not sure about this, but pretty certain their orchestra being on stage and integrated into some of the action also incurs additional AFM fees. These things add up.

If Kimberly is paying the bills then why would they close. Just because they aren’t making a ton of extra money, it’s also not eating away. At least that seems to be what the producers are thinking.

Just noticed that Harmony has tickets available for almost every performance from 12/22 to 1/14.  Doesn't look great for a new musical.

Akimbo seems to be barely breaking even now. So it would be under the assumption that they'll be losing money come the dead of Winter.

Yeah, my guess is that nobody in Hadestown makes scale. The musicians get extra for being on stage and in costume, the actors who play instruments get extra, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole cast gets a hazard bump for working with the whole turntable and elevator setup. There are times they're dancing on a part of the stage that's spinning pretty quickly around a giant hole in the floor. That certainly has extra risk of injury.

The Extraordinary Risk payment (which was only $20/week) was eliminated during the last Equity Production Contract negotiation last year.

In his defense "on the brink of losing money" is synonymous with "still making a little money."

Exactly. I mean it is limping along, but it's also in a very tiny theater and a hard show to market, so by all accounts it's not doing that badly.
