A laundry list of happy trails were said on Sunday:
- Jonathan Groff, Sarah Hyland, and Michele Pawk at JUST IN TIME (Valeria Yamin also has left, temporarily)
- Ryan McCartan, Michael Maliakel, and Austin Colby at THE GREAT GATSBY
- Julie Benko at RAGTIME
- Stephen Spinella at HARRY POTTER
…and most of the Year 1 cast of STRANGER THINGS.
I expected MOULIN ROUGE! to be up a bit more, to be honest, with Megan Thee Stallion now in the fold. Solid jump though.
Mixed results for the new shows, as expected. I believe JELLICLE BALL lost money in its first full week.
Overall, the spring numbers aren’t up as much as last year, partially because there are no humongous names leading shows and obliterating box office records. Last year we had Clooney, Denzel + Jake, e.g. The celebs we have this time around are very good and bankable, but a notch or two below on the fame meter.

Happy to see "Just in Time" reach the $2mill mark! That top price ticket is insane!
Death Becomes Her needs to breathe some new life into the show, and quickly.

It's a tough spot to be in for Two Strangers. They seem determined to keep avg ticket price heathly but i don't know how much longer they can play to 2/3 full houses.
I'm sure there's plenty of promos going around for the shows in previews so hard to judge them too much. Beaches starting 2 shows at 87% capacity is a bit of a red flag though. That JIT top ticket price is INSANE but glad to see Groff go out with a bang.

Beaches doesn't seem to be moving its cheapest tickets, which is not a great sign, either.
Two Strangers doesn't seem to be sustaining much buzz (which isn't surprising- it seems to be a show that a lot of people seem to like but not necessarily love) but I cannot imagine they won't make it to the Tonys, where they have a credible chance of winning in a weird, weak year. Fortunately they're a low-cost show which helps and sets them apart from the other new shows that are struggling to find their footing.

Also very impressive start for The Lost Boys. Almost breaking half a million on 2 shows is a great start for them.

Good on Jellicle Ball for a decent start. I hope reviews and awards buzz help the audience build up. I know one factor in their grosses is that they’ve rezoned the theatre a few times since previews started and made changes to what is considered partial view and premium. Once everything freezes, we will have a more consistent pattern.

That number for Just in Time is insane for Groff's last week. It feels like it will be a very long time before another production crosses $2 million at Circle in the Square.
With a full week, I thought Cats would be doing a bit better than it is. Also, I don't think the Rocky Horror numbers are that impressive.
The four worst weeks of Death Becomes Her's run have all come in March 2026. With so many veteran shows being so stable, this could be the next closing announcement.
The average ticket prices for Beaches and Titanique are troubling.
Lots of plays crushing it as to be expected though I think Death of a Salesman feels a bit low for the Winter Garden.
Oh Mary is doing OK but just biding its time before it spikes with Maya Rudolph.
I'm very impressed with how Mincemeat is continuing to do with the new cast. This show has far outlasted what I thought it was capable of doing.
Not counting Christmas, New Year's and Easter, this was the best week for Moulin Rouge since December 2021

At least initially, Rocky Horrors numbers shouldn’t be all too impressive as it’s playing to Roundabout subscribers.

Does anyone know how subscriber and donor tickets for Roundabout factor into their weekly grosses? Would it be the individual ticket price as part of the subscription or donation package?

I asked this before and that was basically the answer I got, like if you paid $200 for 4 shows, then each show would count as $50.

It's doing some good business outside of its subscribers too. There are quite a few sold out shows already which is more than they regularly do.

Two strangers is not doing well. If it doesn’t get nominated for Best Musical, expect a closing announcement very soon after.

I mean, in what world does it not get nominated?

How is BVSC doing? Will it still be around in the Fall?
Weather was so good in LA the other week thst I'm already thinking about going again next year when Easter is a bit earlier. The BVSC tour will be at the Pantages that weekend, so wondering if it should be on my long list for this year's trip to NY or just wait until next March in LA? In NY I'll only have time for 10 shows.

A great jump for Moulin Rouge, but I honestly expected it to hit the $2 million mark with Megan in the role.
I'm surprised & Juliet has fallen so much, it felt like such an easy sell for tourists, and especially families. But as it stands, its just a matter of whether they decide to close it around labor day or try to push through the holiday season.
I believe the weekly nut for The Jellicle Ball is about $900k is memory serves? Would have liked to see them start with a bit of a higher gross, but at least they are about flat for their first week, with room to grow through Tony season.
I did NOT expect a $148 average ticket price for Lost Boys. I know its only the first two shows, but great for them!

Oh Mary is outgrossing quite a few productions with higher breakeven points and has remained hovering well over its $500K+ breakeven every week since it opened. Even if the show is not getting the blockbuster 7-digit numbers we came to expect with previous Marys, JCM and Simu Liu being able to generate $800K a week is more than just “Ok”
I’ll be concerned about Oh Mary when it starts sinking down to “Six”-level grosses

Is "Oh, Mary!" still technically still being billed as a "limited run" even though they've extended multiple times now? I imagine when they feel like it's run it's course they'll just quit extending, rather than just close up shop. I know we JUST got the Maya Rudolph announcement, but I would love to see the list of other performers they're reaching out to.

It’s tricky because the casting is pretty much the contigency that keeps it going and, in a gap, they can always run Hannah for a few weeks at a time since she’s developed a cult following of her own.
Im sure many have been asked and people have accepted and then fallen through - but the casting team has been the most savvy of any Broadway show, so I presume any extension means they have casting lined up.
Part of the piecemeal extension game is also monetary. If they control the calendar and limit supply to increase demand, they can get repeat customers when another extension comes around and they can tinker with the prices to increase or decrease.
One certain pattern I have always noticed and hasn’t failed me yet is that the next Mary is almost always announced at the halfway point of the current Mary, usually 4-6 weeks before their projected start, almost immediately after the ink on the contract is dry.

These faux-limited runs are increasingly common- Mincemeat has been doing the same thing, as has Masquerade. "New blocks of tickets" are regularly announced for shows. As quizking101 said, it's artificial scarcity.

It's very unlikely that TWO STRANGERS is not winning BEST MUSICAL, so they should be safe at least through winter 2027.
