Wow, Buena Vista is killing it. Good for them finding their audience.
Buena Vista Social Club is SO wonderful and I'm incredibly happy for them.
Very happy for Buena Vista. The shows that needed miracles are not getting them. Death Becomes Her is doing great. But I wonder if the leads iffy attendance record is hurting them? Or those the audience not really care?

It wasn't on my list, but I couldn't resist getting a single cheap ticket for June. Can't wait.

I would NEVER thought ''Just in Time'' would get these numbers. Damn, Groff, good for him!
Those numbers of Harry Potter, Hadestown and Chicago are terrible.

I was not the only one that asked for a exchange this last Sunday. But there weren't many. My friend did say that at the booth they were telling customers Megan was out. So it probably did have some negative effect... if minimal.
You think Real Women posts closing notice today?

I was thinking the same, especially for Harry Potter. 700k? my goodness!

Hadestown has enjoyed a fantastic run, but they’d be smart to announce an autumn closing date. It’s time.

The way RWHC, Boop! and Dead Outlaw are hemorrhaging money is shocking. At least Dead Outlaw is running for Best musical and still has chances, while the other two are still open for no reason.
So happy for DBH, my favorite musical this season by far!
And what's with those 'Harry Potter' numbers? Do you think 'Stranger Things' is snatching some audience from them or something else is happening?

He's giving a remarkable performance in a smartly crafted feel good evening in the theater. It will be a box office hit through the end of the year at least if he stays that long.

Not sure how to reconcile the relatively low gross of Operation Mincemeat with its relatively high average ticket price and capacity. Is it just size of theater? Noticed the same thing for Sondheim's Old Friends, but does that being a nonprofit make it not an apples to apples comparison?
Stranger Things, supposedly, cost 40 million and has no high totem pole award prospects. Not sure how much longer they can sustain at those current numbers.

I really wish Real Women could turn it around, but it’s just not happening sadly.

Agree! Based on the level of production, I'm sure it needs to gross at least over 1M weekly to sustain its costs. Perhaps once ST season 5 premieres it'll give them a boost and they're counting on it. But I think it'll follow a similar path to Back to the future. Good numbers during the holidays, some boost in sales every now and then but closing in a year from now.
Netflix is the main producer of Stranger Things, and they are willing to pump money into it in order to uplift their brand. But they DESPERATELY need some synergy with the TV series to turn things around. It's absolutely mind boggling that we still don't have a premiere date for Season 5. It would be such an easy marketing tool to create a sense of urgency with the Broadway such if they did ("hurry, make sure you catch up with Vecna in The First Shadow before you watch the final showdown when Season 5 premieres on XX DATE").
I think both Boop and Real Women Have Curves will likely use the Tonys as their last week of performances. I'm just not sure what the path forward is for them. Any remote possibility of success involves producers sinking a ton more money in for things like a total 180 on advertising and PR. I'm still sour that Tony nominators didn't include it in Best Musical. It's an absolutely joyous evening of theater.
It might be time for Harry Potter to pack it up too. They've altered the show twice now in an effort to make it sustainable. And numbers keep trending downward. Of course there's also major money behind it and it represents a key WB brand, so who knows. But it feels like it plays through one more holiday season and closes in January.

Just took a quick glance at their houses for the week ahead, and they are sadly so low. I'm curious how long they can hold out, especially considering the lack of many Tony noms.

Yes, they literally have fewer seats. Also, lower running costs. Mincemeat might well have made more profit this week than pretty much any other new musical.

RWHC may be gone before the TONYS - no reason to keep it open until after as it won't win any!

It appears that the Tony nominations impacted MHE. Over $1.0MM. Their average ticket price is probably the highest it has been, which is great. I will finally see it in three weeks.
if the naysayers are right that this summer is not going to be as good as people have come to expect, I wonder if Potter or Stranger Things can even make it to fall unless someone decides to just eat the losses for a while. I assume their target audience )at least at this point for Potter) are tourists. Chicago needs to get its stunt casting machine in overdrive or it is finally going to be in trouble.
I have to admit that I wouldn’t go see Dead Outlaw if I were given great tickets for free. I have heard a few songs and really didn’t like them, and the story just has no appeal to me. I am wondering if I am typical, given how bad the grosses have been.
I assume that RWHC is not being helped by the fact that BBSC is turning into a hit. I imagine a lot of people who do not see everything, which appears to be a lot of people on this board, will probably not get tix to two musicals with Latin music, unless they love Latin music. Gotta admit that I don’t expect to see either in my June trip because I don’t really like it. Will admit that I am hoping Boop is still open, because I would really like to see Jasmine, and I have like the songs I have heard, several a lot.

Elphaba helped too. But the good news comes with caveats.

Betcha they pay Groff a ton of money to tour Just In Time for six months or so.
