The SEC filing for the show has its minimum capitalization at $29,000,000.

I doubt either one is performing. There isn't room for all the non-nominated shows to perform and if any of them do get a slot, I'm guessing it will be Just in Time.
I mean, i wouldn’t bet against Mamma Mia performing to promote the show returning to Broadway.

Wow. But that is Universal Pics? I’m not worried about DBH. But DANG!
Is there a world where Harry Potter Theatricals (aka JK Rowling) keeps putting money into this, expecting a boost in public interest once the television series premieres next year?
Or is it more likely that they close Broadway to consolidate productions to the national tour, West End, Tokyo, Hamburg, and upcoming Netherlands sitdown?

Gutenberg! was the only show in recent memory that was financially successful and recouped. Although it was a limited run.

Why are RWHC and Boop! still open? Just shocking.
So so happy for DBH! It's the best musical of the season imo, and I hope it gets best musical category (sorry MHE fans). I feel it's everything I want in a musical!
BOOP needs to double their grosses just to break even. It's very surprising they haven't announced a closing.

Given the massive investment ATG put into the Lyric's transformation for CURSED CHILD, the discussion surrounding closing the show is a complex one. As long as the show is in the black for the year (which I'm sure it will be), I think it would cost them significantly more in the long run to close the show and turn around the space than take a hit for a handful of weeks. Unless there is another major entertainment conglomerate capable of such a massive undertaking and can shoulder that cost with a property that could be a long-runner interested in the space, such as Disney, I don't see it closing for a few years still.
Harry Potter also seems certain to have a long runway from announcement to closing to juice the last several months of ticket sales from a long running show. So i feel like even if there was an announcement tomorrow, it probably wouldn't close until January at the earliest. There's also probably not a line of shows wanting the barn that is the Lyric.
I know the Lyric renovations essentially made an auditorium within an auditorium to make it more intimate. I would assume ATG would want to keep that setup instead of reverting to the previous barn, no?

And even with those lower cost tickets, they aren't selling out the house. Word of mouth is fairly poor. The Tony race was supposed to be Maybe Happy Ending vs. Dead Outlaw...but MHE has firmly pulled ahead. So no Best Musical win to boost the box office. Maybe a surprise win in book or an upset in featured actress. Neither would make a dent in sales. It's a small show, so it can ride these numbers for a bit, but when new shows arrive in the fall it's going to be drowned out.
Which A-List movie stars are going to make their Broadway debuts next season? With these astronomical grosses for star-driven plays, expect them to dominate Broadway through this incoming recession. New musicals, not so much."
Actually; the race is now between MHE and DBH. With DBH showing to be a favorite in last weeks road convention.. so as far as the Tonys.. anything can still happen. I suspect financially DBH will eventually be the financial winner regardless."
If DBH cost 31.5 Million to produce they have a very long way to go before they are a financial winner regardless.

The scariest thing about Death Becomes Her might be its budget.
With initial capitalization costs of $31.5 million, the new musical is the most expensive show to arrive on Broadway in over five years. It required even more money to mount on Broadway than the recent musical adaptations of Moulin Rouge! at $28 million, The Great Gatsby at $25 million, and Back to the Future at $23.5 million.
The musical Death Becomes Her cost $31.5 million to get on Broadway, making it the most expensive show to arrive on Broadway in over five years, according to Forbes. This high cost was driven by factors like the production's scale and the complexity of bringing the film adaptation to the stage, according to Forbes.

the auditorium within an auditorium is specifically designed for the show itself. It's tricked out to accomplish certain magic in the show and is literally a part of the set design. Even if they keep the shell as built, there will still be massive costs to scrub it of the Harry Potter brand.
Aren’t the Curran in San Francisco and the Mirvish in Toronto still in their Harry Potter configurations? Not sure how much of the Harry Potter “brand” was inflicted onto each respective space, but the precedent of retaining the seating and aisle arrangements is already there.

Cabaret and Harry Potter also seem very close to deaths door."
You've been saying that every week. CABARET isn't going anywhere anytime soon -- sorry to disappoint.
"
Cabaret is not close to hitting its weekly costs right now and its current cast is in for another 2 months. Both Orville and Eva are great but they're not commanding the higher ticket prices it needs. Even if they were to have major A listers signed and confirmed to step in after they leave, they're still in a hole.
Death Becomes Her has Hollywood money and will likely be cleaning up on the road.
Harry Potter is an interesting one because - much like Stranger Things - its London counterpart is still doing great sales. I guess American audiences want more substance than style? I would have thought the whole production of Cabaret would be such a hot ticket, but maybe given the political climate we all just want a laugh which is why Death Becomes Her is catching on so quickly.

Did DBH do the thing where they produced the out of town independently and that was looped into the overall capitalization? I believe they make more in the long term this way. The tour will be huge and the stock and amateur rights will be alive forever. It’s been over a million a week since previews and bumped to 1.3m a week since nominations and tiktok. I imagine it will do well when all is said and done.

No.The Mirvish is currently occupied by THE LION KING, which tells me the space was not given the same immersive atmosphere the Lyric currently has.
The Curran I cannot speak to, I didn't see CURSED CHILD there. Has it been occupied since?

Yes, not often enough in my opinion, because it’s the best of the larger San Francisco theaters. Stereophonic will be there this fall.
Stereophonic is playing there? I’m flabbergasted by some of these huge barns this is playing.

The Curran has 1,667 capacity. A lot larger than its Broadway house but smaller than most of the places it will play.

I don't know that 45 more seats would be considered "a lot larger."
