Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/22/26

We said happy trails last week to CHESS, THE BALUSTERS, CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY, Nik Walker, Juliette Lewis, and Michaela Jae Rodriguez. Shoutout as well to Kaleigh Cronin who is eight months pregnant and just had to step away from SCHMIGADOON! over the weekend.

SCHMIGADOON is starting to see the fruits of their Tony wins - good for them. Meanwhile, CELEBRITY AUTOBIOGRAPHY had an absolutely pathetic ending. They were not making anything to begin with but I don’t think I’ve ever seen the final week of grosses fall be over 50%.

CHESS went out strong and JUST IN TIME looked like it dipped a little with Matt Magnusson on all week.

TWO STRANGERS still looks like it’s holding on so there may be hope for a Mincemeat-esque sleeper hit status in the making.

TITANIQUE is…not doing well. Honestly, I would much rather have Layton Williams jump ship and go across the street to use his freakishly athletic dance skills in the Jellicle Ball. He would be a GREAT Macavity while Leiomy is out injured for the summer

Also, I couldn’t find the thread, but worth noting (since THE BALUSTERS closed on Sunday), Marylouise Burke never returned to the production.

& Juliet and Six have to be announcing closing dates soon.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

^I would think &Juliet would wait to see how things go with Chrissy Metz and the return of Joey Fatone before making any major movements. I feel like &Juliet has so many options of people to pull from for future stunt casts that I feel like it'll hang on for a bit.

This has been the mindset for at least a year or two now. While they’ve managed to get some casting to get their heads back above water, they really need to consider deploying any bigger options they might have lined up. It’s also possible they’ve exhausted their wishlist of stunt casting and so they are left with minimal options.

Joey Fatone might move the needle a bit, but he’s been doing it on and off so it’s no longer an “event”. Chrissy Metz is also an out of left field choice and I can’t imagine she would be able to really sell much on her name alone

Happy Trails to Chess going out on a high..

the new box office layout sucks.  it was much easier to read the old way.

It's the Outsiders of the season. It will last because it's an event.

It still needs to be grossing substantially more weekly in order to recoup in the next several years. That is its major hurdle now: a lot of debt and a high running cost.

I respect your opinion, but, for the record, I prefer it this way. I can't see as many shows at once, but I can see all the figures for a given show on my screen, which I couldn't before.

Not difficult for Chess to go out on a high when they were suddenly charging more than two hundred bucks for not so great seats that used to sell for $79 or less. I wanted to revisit but not for those prices.

I wouldn’t call it sudden. This wasn’t supposed to be closing, just Lea Michele’s last show, and so the prices were already boost. The fact it was closing maybe gave it a little more bump, but the prices were already elevated

I have to scroll across now to see all the figures for the week for one show whereas the old way i could look at one column top to bottom of a show without scrolling.

While I am skeptical of The Lost Boys’ long-term box office outlook, credit where it’s due for the steady increase in both weekly revenue and average ticket price.

The Outsiders had several advantages: a more favorable international tourism situation that affects musicals (especially flashy ones) more than other shows, and a Best Musical win. I also think that The Outsiders has stronger IP than The Lost Boys.

But it’s the biggest hit new musical of the season and should do well this summer.

the prices for Chess this week were back to where they were early in the run and it was hardly surprising they were going to capitalise on people who wanted to see the show one more time before it closed.

No sh*t Sherlock. I’m just disappointed that I didn’t get to see it one more time because I’m not paying over $200 for a $79 seat. But good for them for finding suckers willing to do so.

I understand. We clearly have our displays set up differently! My experience is just the opposite.

Hopefully, The Lost Boys and Schmiggadoon can get their average ticket prices up.  I they can't, the former will be this seasons DBH.

I missed something.  Why did BOM gross so much the week before last week.  I know there were special events planned, but to generate that kind of increase in gross must have been really special.

Does anyone know what CATS' breakeven is.  They went down last week, which can't be good.

The Great Gatsby must be losing money every single week.  I assume this is some rich producer vanity thing.

Lost Boys, unlike DBH and former tenants of The Palace, has a large balcony to fill which brings the average ticket prices down.  However, that affordability is helping their business.  The show is hitting with young people who are revisiting.

I said nothing to deserve that nastiness from you. I didn't attack you I just laid out facts.
