Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 6/29/26

Just 5 weeks in, but we’re down by over 10% this fiscal season so far.
"

Could we be entering a January 2009 moment this summer with mass closings across the board? I hope not.

Mass closures probably won’t happen if there isn’t much in the pipeline.

Gotta replace the struggling shows somehow, right?

I consider it a win for Team Sherie Rene Scott! (Her first performance on Friday was entirely sold out)

I will say that I am curious as to what will happen with Rocky Horror after 7/19, if there are any more cast changes and how that will affect sales. Part of what drove demand was the scarcity of tickets since it was supposed to be a limited run. Now that they have extended to November, I wonder if there will be a softening point in the future like other shows are showing now
"

I’m fairly certain that the ticket prices for Rocky are the highest or among the highest that have ever been charged for a Studio 54 production. Not difficult to break house records when you’re charging over $300 for a ticket.

Mr. Wormwood said: "I'm a bit surprised Moulin Rouge hasn't picked up more as it heads towards its end of summer closing. I'm sure it will once August rolls around.

Regarding the Schmigadoon bump, I think it's pretty solid. Not an Outsiders level bump but it's doing way better than it was before its win and hanging in strong territory.
"

MR’s ace-in-the-hole is usually whatever stunt cast they trot out for a few weeks/months. They don’t have any in the cast at the moment and the show has long passed its sell-by date. The Megan thee Stallion dropout in May probably cost them a few million in potential sales, so there is still wound licking from that.

I feel like MR is going to try and pull Aaron and/or Danny back for the last few weeks of the run, but I don’t think the production is going to pony up the cost to bring either of them back in since they both can command a much higher salary. (They know what they’re worth).

He was cast in the wrong role. Imagine the ticket sales if he was playing Roxie.

This. As a fan of Matteo Lane, I can't help but feel he looks awkward -- and almost uncomfortable -- in these pictures. Maybe it's a different story seeing him live, but I wish he had had the opportunity to guest in a different role, in another show.

I don’t really think Matteo Lane would be much of a draw in any show, which isn’t a slight against him- he’s kind of a niche figure at best and isn’t broadly known. He has yet to have a major breakout role in film or TV, or even a hit comedy special that brings him to wide attention. He also seems to be doing the bare minimum plugging of it on his social media.

The option to have him as Mary Sunshine was right there. He can sing opera and has the Butch Queen/camp quality that the role requires. Plus, a celebrity Mary Sunshine would actually be a first.

My friends and I are huge fans of his comedy, but when they announced him, we were all so confused and amused because I could think of him for so many roles in other shows that aren’t the scheming, shady 1920s lawyer who also has a whole number that implies he is a p*$$yhound

I think Nick Adams would be a wonderful choice as Billy Flynn.  He has extensive experience with theatre..including Chicago.  He can sing, act and dance.....an amazing triple threat.    Another possibility would be Cheyenne Jackson.  As the late Judy Tenuta used to say:  "It could happen"!

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
