Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 8/13/23

Not a bad week! Happy to see BTTF is doing well post-opening. As for OUAOMT, YIKES!!! I don't even know how they are still open with those numbers. I have a feeling a closing announcement will be posted any day now.

How much longer does Kimberly have?

I would say at least through the end of the year. It's a shame that it's not selling out each week post-Tonys. Such a beautiful and ORIGINAL piece of theatre!

Not looking good for Shark or Shucked or Some Like it Hot either. Tough to be on Broadway these days.

Huh? The show is making money. I don't see it closing anytime soon. It's in one of the smallest houses on Broadway it was never going to be a $1M a week show.
I suspect "Some Like It Hot" will announce a closing soon.

Does anyone know what the approx weekly operating costs of Kimberly Akimbo even are?

Nice bump for Hadestown for Eva’s final week.
Also, solid numbers from Just for Us (in its penultimate week) and Here Lies Love. Hopefully the latter does not experience too much of a drop when Lea departs.

Hm. With all of the projections and everything, OUAOMT doesn't really have a set. Maybe it's not that expensive to run? Maybe they're holding out for the end of the year or something. Word of mouth has also been great even if the ticket sales don't reflect that.
Glad to see &Juliet is going strong. I'm interested to see how it will fare once Austin Scott has been there for a while.
I feel like Back to the Future will be the surprise of the season. I'm so glad to see it holding strong post-opening!

A strong week for shows that are closing soon (Just For Us, Funny Girl and Good Night Oscar) and very strong for Eva's final Hadestown week.
Aside from those, I'm most impressed by Here Lies Love. A slight rise when almost everything else dropped is good news for that show.

Never suggested that it ought to be making a million a week. However, we're now two months out from the show winning the Tony, and grosses have been declining over the summer. It made nearly $750k the week after its Tony win, and this past week, it grossed nearly $200k less at $560k. When I asked "how much longer does it have," I didn't mean that it should be posting closing this week or anything. It's just evident that however much demand there is for this show is tapering off. It's clearly not shaping up to be one of the long-running Best Musical winners.

Remember, all of the songwriters/producers of all of those Britney Spears songs have to be paid weekly royalties. That's probably a large chunk of the weekly running costs for OUAOMT.

That's a good point, but maybe that's their highest expense? Especially given how bare the set is.

That's a pretty steep drop for Kimberly this past week. Are they discounting or have they still pulled all the codes? Capacity might be starting to drop so it could be good to circulate those again.
Historically is this the week where tourists start to leave the city? The drops across the board make me think there's an external factor involved.

Just seems an odd thing to ask when it's making money. They'll keep it open until it's not making money..

School is starting up in parts of the country this past week also so summer tourists are beginning to disappear. I’m curious to see the next two weeks what happens, as more of the country starts back up with school.

Do you know that it's making money? Not trying to be snarky, genuinely asking. Do you know what the nut for the show is?

I have to say that ''Here Lies Love'' numbers are really good. Is this word of mouth?
I think ''Once Upon One More Time'' and ''A Beautiful Noise'' are likely posting closing notices very soon. By Labor Day, probably.

i sure hope Kimberly recoups its investment before it closes!

KA is $550,000 a week

Broadway Journal reported Kimberly Akimbo's running costs as about 570k a week so it did not make money this week, especially when you remove the customary 10% from the equation.

Several posters commented on how well BTTF and HLL are doing. I disagree, given their average ticket price. I fear they will both lose their investments, if ticket prices don’t pick up significantly. They may run for quite awhile, but it is an uphill battle for both.

I've defended Kimberly's numbers all summer but this wasn't a good week for it and I do think it's fair to question how much longer it has. I still think it'll make it to the end of the year but I was feeling better about it when it was in the $650-700k range than I do about it this week. Hopefully it'll bounce back up next week. It deserves to have a nice run!
