I didn't read the reviews--did Almost Famous do so well that they'd try to transfer it?

No idea but there's been rumors of a transfer forever.

Is there any chance in the world Music Man goes here? Not ideal maybe for show viewing, but in terms of $$ making they could easily a killing there with Hugh in the show. Or, transfer Beetlejuice to the Marquis and have Hugh still take the Winter Garden. We shall see, but I think everyone is surprised Beetlejuice has caught on like it has."

Oh ya, totally forgot about that. Well this should be interesting then haha. No idea how thats all going to play out. I could still see Beetlejuice going to the Marquis but idk if they can't switch from a Shubert to non Shubert theatre."

The question isn’t whether they can make the switch, but if they can afford the switch.

Which, could hypothetically all be available. If WSS is a complete flop out of the gate (December/January) then likely this is where the show goes, in my opinion. I don't see the point in moving TKAM when their advance still seems to be pretty strong, I'm sure there are more "names" that can play Atticus, its in an iconic theatre, I see no need for a switch there. Should be interesting but if I recall The Music Man promised a theatre announcement in June, its now October. My guess is plans for the Winter Garden have changed.

I guess I could see TKAM going to the Broadhurst. Staging would fit perfectly. I think TKAM is a much different beast of a play sales wise than anything else, including Potter. Almost everybody in this country has read or seen the movie either on their own or through their own education. The name alone is a sell, the good reviews, now plus stunt casting. Id think without having the OBC and Jeff Daniels at the helm (although I'm sure Harris isn't cheap) id think the weekly nut isn't too too crazy. Broadhurst could easily support this play.

I have heard from reputable sources that BJ will be moving to a smaller Broadway theatre, albeit in a scaled-down (ready to tour) version. I am also hearing that Sing Street is virtually guaranteed a theatre, even though it hasn't even opened yet off-Broadway.

As for other shows circling the great white way, I just don't see Almost Famous making it to Broadway this spring unless they can fill one of the roles with a big name. I saw it in San Diego and really enjoyed it. Solea Pfeiffer gave a breakout performance.

As for Dreamgirls, the London production was not ready for Broadway IMO. For Dreamgirls to work, you need 2 performers with an extraordinary stage presence for Effie and Deena. Cynthia Erivo or Adrienne Warren would be my picks for Deena and Danielle Brooks for Effie. Adrienne was fantastic as Lorell in the Robert Longbottom directed tour. As for direction, the show should be done with a director who can add more grit and more "realness" to the show. Maybe it's time for an African-American director to put his stamp on the show.

BEETLEJUICE is complicated.

If it has a bad winter and continually drops below its breakeven (probably about $700k), it wouldn't be worth it to move to a new theatre & keep it running. At this rate, it's also going to take forever to recoup the reported 21 million.

It can also probably run at the Winter Garden til July, which is still a healthy run (8 more months).

The question is if Beetlejuice hasn't missed its nut twice before end of Winter/early Spring, will Rudin have to pay to relocate the production to another theater/pay the capitalization cost as part of part of The Music Man's capitalization? If it hasn't missed its nut twice the Shubert Organization technically can't enforce their stop clause to evict the show to make way for The Music Man. Yes, this is unlikely to based on its grosses during its initial weeks prior to to it taking off over Summer, which is likely why the Shubert Organization "gave/guaranteed" the theater to Rudin for The Music Man.

Barns of Broadway:

1. Gershwin (1933 Seats)- Wicked
2. Broadway (1761 seats) - West Side Story - based on the name alone it should run through at least January 2021 unless Van Hoven's radical re-envisioning is met by universal condemnation by critics.
3. New Amsterdam (1747 seats) - Aladdin
4. Palace Theater (1743 seats) - Closed until for renovations until at least 2021
5. Minskoff Theater (1710 seats) - Lion King
6. St James Theater (1709 seats) - Frozen - May close summer 2020 allowing it to be open for The Music Man
7. Majestic Theater (1645 seats) - Phantom of the Opera
8. Lyric Theater (1622 seats) - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Might close in 2020, but the theater will have to go through massive renovations after the show closes.
9. Marquis Theater (1612 Seats) - No current Tenant
10. Winter Garden (1526 Seats) - Beetlejuice
11. Lunt-Fontante Theater (1519 Seats)- Tina-The The Tina Turner Musical- unless something crazy happens it should run through January 2021 and likely a few more years after that.

Its just at this point, if I were the working in the Shubert Organization, I would be hammering out a backup plan for Rubin, where The Music Man takes the Broadway or works out an arrangement with Jujamcyn or Neaderlanders for it to take the St James if Frozen closes up shop at the end of summer, which seems likely at this point, or god forbid the Marquis, which at this point is the only barn that will definitely be open come late summer/early Fall 2020.

Tootsie's numbers haven't been THAT bad, so I wonder if there's another show circling the theater to get in for this season.
