I thought Driver was insanely good. And Keri Russell anchors the whole thing. I'm gay and in my 30s and the depiction of Larry didn't bother me at all; the play was written in 1987; the fact that he's there at all, fully-formed, and not dying of AIDS is in itself something I took away from it. I'd never seen the play before. I was very moved.

I feel like I'm the only one who LOATHED Adam Driver. I thought he was trying to do too much the whole time. It was like he was yelling "LOOK I'M OUT OF TOUCH AND DON'T UNDERSTAND SOCIAL NORMS! GET IT?!" I thought the only successful people on stage were Uranowitz and Furr.

I won the lottery for tonight’s show!! Luckily got two seats together in the orchestra far left. Row M 9-11. Couldn’t see the kitchen part but were great seats!!! Also did stage door after and everyone came out and signed. They were so friendly!

Saw this play was back in the 80s with Eric Roberts, who was pretty good, but thought the play was very weak, and although I like Keri Russell a lot, decided not to go on my recent NYC trip. Perhaps I should reconsider when I return in June (for Stonewall 50). Saw Keri years ago in a staged reading of ALL ABOUT EVE with Annette Bening as Margot and Keri as Eve, and she was great (and way better as Eve than Lily James is in the current von Hove AAE in London).

Debating between seeing this or The Ferryman. Uranowitz is one of my favorite actors and I've met him twice but have yet to see him perform. I also love Adam Driver just from being a Star Wars fan. I get that The Ferryman may be the superior show, but I think I might rather see this one for the cast. Any suggestions? (I'm a 16-year-old girl and I'm going to see either one with my dad)

Saw today’s matinee. Brandon Uranowitz and David Furr are both giving excellent, fullly realized performances. The more I think about their work, the more I appreciate it.

Driver is commanding and hilarious and surprisingly charming and, with more time, could afford to be even more varied in his choices.

The role of Anna is tricky, as she does some rather crappy things, and it takes a special kind of performance to not make you actively dislike her at times. This was not that performance. Russell seems at ease on the stage, but I didn’t really sense anything organic or spontaneous from her. By and large, her line readings seemed predetermined, although she improved as the performance went on.

Overall, a solid production with a fairly strong ensemble.

I was at last night's production and pretty much hated it, and I recognized at one point that it was likely because the audience was laughing at almost every line whether or not it read as funny, and that pulled me out of the experience considerably. I usually love being in a responsive audience, but last night I would have preferred silence.

This is a huge yikes but anyone actually paying attention to the scene knows this is a huge moment where we get to Pale's understanding of his brother. Last night, the audience did collectively inhale and the tension Russell and Driver created in that moment was brilliant. I think Pale's entrance in that scene might lead people to laugh at everything delivered but I think Driver is managing that. Too bad about that particular audience. 

This has been my favorite this season so far. Uranowitz is just sublime and it was really fun watching Driver trying to wend his way through Pale's constant nonsense monologues. I do see where Russell's character gets thrown aside but Anna herself is experiencing some amount of grief which is working itself on all of the characters. I will say, the Playbill photo does not match what I expected from the show, interesting promotional decision.

We won the TodayTix lottery and we were orch row M, if anyone was interested in knowing where seats can be. Crazy good leg room at the Hudson in that area.

(Also, maybe I'm not paying attention to what is going on in the area anymore, but there were several people holding signs outside that said "We just need one ticket to the show" on white paper outside the theater. It was really weird and I can't say I remember seeing this recently or ever.)

like you, many people have been calling Adam Driver's performance, among other things, sexy. I know they are talking about his acting, but physically, does he where any sexy costumes, or show any skin onstage etc? asking for a friend.

Yes, he does take his pants off at one point and does half of a scene wearing a robe showing his very nice legs to make a pot of tea. Which I suppose can be interpreted as sexy.

I am seeing this tomorrow afternoon but I have just finished reading the play, and, at least on the page, it comes across as frequently funny. Some of it is silly funny - the character Larry is a real smart aleck and is intentionally funny, often as a form of self defense. And Driver's character, Pale, has long, rambling, over-the-top monologues at several points and those would be deadly if done seriously. I enjoyed reading this, and look forward to see how it comes across in performance.

Unless you're describing a Las Vegas magician's act, a costume change does not merit a spoiler alert. Just answering for a friend.

Wonderful to hear Mr. Lanford Wilson’s words again in a marvelous production with a great cast. This was fun tonight.

I really enjoyed this play. The only thing I knew about Adam Driver was that he was in Star Wars (which I didn't see), so his performance was completely at odds with my mental image of him - what a great surprise! He was excellent and so funny. As everyone has noted, Brandon Uranowitz was fantastic. I thought Keri Russell gave a solid performance. Loved that they played 80s music in the theatre.

Regarding the line that Brandon posted about, I agree with NievesG's comments. The night I went, the audience reacted with sort of a collective gasp (no laughter, thankfully).

This has been bugging me since I saw Burn This: is this play a comedy?

To me, it reads as a drama with comedic moments. But I wanted less of it to be played for laughs. I'm curious to hear what others' opinions are, because I may have just "misread" the show.

I haven't seen it yet but people I know who have seen it described it very similar to your view. I don't think you misread anything, I think most people feel it's not a comedy.

Has anyone seen this from the rear Dress Circle or anywhere in the Balcony? I'm not dying to see it but there are cheap tickets available, especially throughout the balcony... hard to believe this is the sorta show that plays well from way up there but im not really familiar with the Hudson except the orchestra (which is mostly fantastic)... any thoughts would be appreciated.

My sister and I had seats in the balcony, row E. Better than some mezzanine seats I've had, to be honest. Could see every facial expression clearly.
