Or is this a cover-up since fewer than 100 tickets were sold? This week only now has4performances scheduled. Tonight got cancelled and Thursday & Saturday were removed from their website, assuming Smart had something else scheduled."
The Thursday and Saturday performances are still scheduled, there's hardly any tickets sold, but they are still listed on the website on sale.
It was also reported on here last week that Day appeared to be suffering through a cold…no conspiracies or controversies.

this show's website doesn't show performances for this Thursday or Saturday.

There seems to be some inconsistencies on the show website. When you go to select a performance, those dates are listed as available to purchase tickets but when you actually click on the seating chart and try to purchase a ticket for that evening, it won't let you. So I guess that lets us know that perhaps interns are running the website?

Those two missing dates are back on the calendar and available for sale.
I'm hearing Day will continue with the role through Sunday, at the very least.

This show was obviously built around Jean Smart, but there is that equity rule that states if the understudy goes on for more than two weeks, the role becomes theirs, I doubt they will actually enforce that, but it will be interesting to see if that actually happens.
I'm also fascinated that the PR team for this production hasn't put out some sort of press release stating that Jean Smart does actually intend on coming back when she's able or made some sort of video with Smart saying: I hope to be back soon! Or something like that.
I honestly think it depends on her healing. They keep changing the date for her return but healing from a knee injury is complicated and given her age, unfortunately takes longer to heal. It's odd they have stayed so silent though.
I hadn’t even heard of this woman until now. Granted, I don’t watch any TV and it seems she’s a TV personality. But even then I feel like regular theatregoers aren’t glued to their TVs either.
Imagine lying about not knowing who Jean Smart is or pretending you have never heard of Hacks. Not a flex. B.

I’ve heard of Hacks but never watched it.
That theatre looks so empty for tonight, it’s practically gonna echo. https://www.reddit.com/r/Broadway/s/mTQuzpEH7r
Cancellation incoming…?

I mean, she has a knee injury, and we don't know what it is. It's entirely possible no one even knows if she can recover in time to return at all. My guess by the amount of time she's been out and the silence is she's probably getting mixed messaging from doctors, and some probably think she can't safely come back at all.
I mean she's 73. I had a knee inury in my 20s and I had to take off work for two weeks. Knee injuries are no joke--they can be complex and hard to heal, and messing with them could mean permanently ruining your knee and ending up needing knee replacement.
Can't be an easy situation for anyone right now.
Not only has she won the Best Actress in a Comedy Series 3 (three) times already for HACKS, she was nominated once again yesterday for another one for her glorious work in HACKS:

Sounds like she should stick to TV then.
And as for that “knee injury”… not since Tyne Daly!

Last night looked worse. They should just offer anyone with a ticket to move down to the orchestra.

She should stick to TV because she injured her knee? You really are a clown.

Can you read? The comment about the knee came after the comment about sticking to TV.
If she’s won so many Emmys for her TV work but her Broadway play fails dismally, then she should stick to TV.
Meanwhile, reports on the down low (or the DL, as the kids say) are that Johanna Day is dismally under rehearsed and had to be fed lines from the wings, but does indeed appear to be unwell; I’m sure she can’t wait to recover and return to this box office triumph just like Jean. Maybe they could race…?

Where did you read she had surgery ? I've only read she has a knee injury, which is quite different.

You’re right, I do love me some Rodgers, Flaherty, and Kander.
per their ticketing website, Day is now scheduled to be on through Sunday.
Looking at the theater map, this seems almost cruel to Ms Day at this point.
