Picked up some tickets for this weekend.

Johanna is a fine actress and if the play is truly that bad, I'll at least get to see her work her way through it.

Now that GYPSY announced it's premature closing, maybe IZZY will announce tomorrow.  I guess they didn't want to be first to drop their shoe.

At this time, Izzy does NOT intend to close before Jean returns on the 20th. And, like others have said on many threads for many other shows, why the desire/wish/fascination/prognostication for a show to close?! Izzy is not holding up the theatre since Oedipus is booked for Oct.

Rather than closing early, the show is actually extending until August 24. Jean will return to the show on Tuesday, July 22.

Both shows on Saturday have been cancelled. Ticket holders were notified this morning. I guess Day had a previous commitment and can't perform that day?

....where there's life (and recuperation), there's hope!  Give the show a chance...and enjoy Jean's performance.  It really is quite good (and may even get remembered for next May's noms)

Really cool she's so committed to the piece. I agree, go see it. I don't usually love one person shows, but just to seen Smart in her element was worth the price for me.

Has the show invited tony nominators/voters? I wonder if Jean would have been ineligible had the show closed, because not enough nominators/voters have seen her performance. Not saying she would win, but I think she stands a chance of being nominated.

Day was great. Did a really remarkable job making something out of nothing.

 

of the 100+ Broadway shows I’ve seen, this may be the worst writing.

I think when a production can't even fill a third of its capacity and cannot even give tickets away, it's totally reasonable to question whether it can stay open.

Someone posted on another message board that today's show was canceled. He found out when he went to buy tickets late this morning (not sure if was posted here already).

It’s also posted on their IG. Sunday, 07/20 performance cancelled with Smart to return Tuesday, 07/22.

So the grosses are abysmal.  Jean has done the press tours.  Nobody is buying tickets.

When will this show finally offer some paper to at least partially fill the house?  Like come on people throw us a bone here...

hrmm... guess I need to subscribe to better paper services.  Not sure the etiquette of naming services so I won't go into details, but the two that I belong to have HAD NOTHING for this show. Except for Joanna Day during that week in July..

Any suggestions (on better paper services?)

Most Broadway producers have stopped using the papering services in lieu of bringing in more targeted audiences, like student organizations at local colleges or non-traditional audiences through community outreach programs.
