Ouch! The negative word-of-mouth is spreading like wildfire even to the non-Broadway people.
A friend who was buying tickets later this week to take his girlfriend just opted to avoid this show AND he doesn't even follow Broadway but heard from others the show is terrible and cheap.
They've only had one preview performance and this is the overnight consensus? Double-ouch!
A coworker of mine who attended the first preview last night DID NOT like it at all. He is not a regular theatergoer, but just a huge fan of the book and both films. Sadly, the negative word of mouth is already rampant.
I'm going tonight. From what I had been reading over the past few months was that the creative team was going to retool the London production to make the Broadway version more like the original film so that American audiences would embrace it. Sadly, it sounds like that is not the case.

A friend of mine was there last night, texted me afterwards to tell me that it was the worst Broadway show she had ever seen and she's 64 and has been a theatre goer her whole life, so that's saying something. She said it was cheap, poorly written, and poorly designed. She said "Dahl deserves better!"
There are a couple cast members who I am a big fan of, but I think I'm going to sit this show out. I wish the cast the best of luck.
Any comments on choreographer Josh Bergasse's work? He was recently on the cover of Dance Spirit magazine touting the show. I figured he was set for something even better after his good work in ON THE TOWN.

My heart breaks with every new post on this thread. Truly, one would think that this property would be the splashiest, most expensive musical on Broadway. I'm not sure what to do with my tickets...

Be one of the few to see an infamous broadway flop?
Maybe this is all the most clever viral marketing ever done. They put on a high-school level production in previews, everyone comes to see the "big flop" and then they "rework" it for opening night and put on a totally different show
or maybe not. Interesting that (since I liked Matilda) I was thinking about whether I'd like GHD, Charlie or both. Looks like only GHD.
To be fair, the Lunt Fontanne is one of those theatres (like the Richard Rodgers or the St. James that SEEMS like a house capable of holding a giant show, but in fact has terribly cramped/ non-existent wing space.
Beauty and the Beast looked quite beautiful there. These reports make the show seem bizarre... I might have to grab a ticket.
^ Speaking of, Audience Rewards has restocked some of their inventory today. Including tickets for Charlie, War Paint and a few others for anyone interested…

Thank you for that! Scored a seat to War Paint for my second viewing.

Asked my industry friends and most are saying DOA...production looks cheap, poorly executed and boringggg but Borle is pretty good but can't save it!
Anybody have anything positive to say about the show?

My pleasure! I scored a few for myself and some friends. Excited to revisit post-opening!

As fun as that might be - no, you don't spent 3 weeks in tech to do that.

The choreo is great. Sometimes basic but good. The best dance number is when Varluca get skilled by the squirrels. Is a big ballet number with her and 6 squirrels. The winners songs have cheap costumes and tacky choreo but it goes with the story.
They will get called out about how cheap the production looks. I'm just in shock. Even th costumes. look basic.
Just looked at the song list and see that they cut the one good song from the London Production -- Simply Second Nature. Don't understand that decision at all. It was a beautiful song.
