they aren't wearing their Bangkok costumes. the ensemble who are there ( not the full ensemble) are dressed in black.
As far as I'm aware, yes its unusual for 3 songs.

Well, that explains how they will include all three of them.
Since these are the songs they have recordings of, maybe they'll use the instrumental parts of those as playback and save the cost for the orchestra.
I don't watch talk shows very often: Isn't it somewhat unusual in a format like Fallon to have the guest do three songs? And what about the attire in Bangkok?"
orchestra is there.

Before they sang on ''The Tonight Show,'' Lea, Aaron and Nicholas took a little time to set up their ''Chess'' pieces ...

Nice vocals, all.
(Sidebar: It's still odd to me, putting "Someone Else's Story" late in act 2, since it contains no new epiphanies, just more reflection on her romantic life, the only thing that defines this ambition and goal-free character.)

Well, the book being a bit misogynist matches the score also being so. Not a single female song passes the Bechdel test.

I searched the thread but I couldn't see if this question was addressed- Does Lea Michele perform in matinees? I am scheduled to see the show tomorrow afternoon. Thanks!

Telecharge lists every show any of the main three are scheduled to be out of and there’s no absences listed for tomorrow.

Pvr'd Fallon & watched it this morning as I don't have to work today. Wow I hate Fallon nowadays. The whole interview on the couch felt scripted. Performances were good though.
Next week I'll be in NYC & seeing this & 9 other shows. At one point in my planning this was my most anticipated show. But I don't know what is now? I've been preoccupied following the government shutdown as I'm heading to DC first at the end of this week. Will the US government actually reopen so that I'll be able to visit the Smithsonian? I've made changes to my departing flights to hopefully give me more leeway in case of delays. Yesterday got an email that the Bill Murray concert in DC Friday is postponed/canceled so I've had to rejig some plans there already. Travel these days seems like you're just always trying to roll with the punches and hoping to swerve before the next one comes.

Great marketing performances and cute "scripted" banter. I really hope they perform Endgame at the Tonys. That pretty much has everyone in the scene and near the end of their (original cast) run so Nick can go bonkers at the end. If not, I'm good with ONIB, Nobody's Side, or I Know Him So Well.

is there any reason for that comment? really?
I made my comment in reply to those wondering what they would wear BEFORE it aired based off pics from the Chess IG account.

For all the griping we've seen about the book, the Bechdel test, the so-called lack of chemistry, etc., ''Chess'' is winning over audiences: over $2 million in grosses last week.

All talk shows have per-interviews so the topics aren't a surprise. Plus when interviewing 3 people at a time you want to make sure they all get some time to talk.
I thought it was a decent interviews and gave them all some spotlight. I think they are doing a good jobs at keeping them on equal ground. But Lea is still a bigger name and why she was hired and the other cast know that.

Sorry, you did not make that clear in your post and you quoted my comment specifically so I just responded. It appeared you made the comment while watching it.

Smashed it in fact. It will be interesting to see how it continues after opening. Given Chess is not a show for everyone I'm expecting mixed to positive reviews with im sure at least a few negative who don't like the book or dont like what they have cut because of favourite past versions,.
Will Chess be critic proof if the reviews do veer more negative? it certainly seems to have good word of mouth given the box office so far.

I'd never really seen Lea Michele before watching this YouTube clip. Wow, she really reminds me a lot of Idina Menzel.

She herself turned Funny Girl from a drag, blah show to a powerhouse of emotion and vocals. She’s a force on stage and absolutely kills in this role.

I refer you to YT and duets of I Dreamed a Dream, Poker Face, Somewhere and Next to Me when they were mother and daughter on Glee.

They were electric together on Glee. Both such emotive, brilliant performers.

Regarding Poker Face: Lea leans heavily into the Mother-Daughter contrast and intentionally sings it like a shy 12 year old which makes sense if you watched the show but otherwise may be irritating. It also makes the lyrics seem even more inappropriate which - knowing the writers of Glee - was intentional, too.
When looking for Glee songs on YT keep in mind that a lot of them have been downloaded, re-encoded and uploaded again over multiple generations by tech-illiterate fans. The sound quality may be awful. Keep looking, many of them can still be found in good quality.
If you have any questions about Lea recordings out there I may be able to help.
