I’m usually anti renaming theatres, it’s become a rallying cry for any recently deceased actor for those especially vocal on Twitter, but I’m not against this. I think certain names carry a lot of weight, and the Majestic is one of them, but can easily see them calling naming it solely “The Prince.” Still Carries the weight of a classic Broadway name, while paying tribute to Harold Prince.

As I said on a different thread, the only good thing that could come out of the travesty that is Phantom’s closing is is the Majestic gets renamed the Prince. Fully support this and love Carol for doing something about it.

I'm all about this, count me in, 100% -- but why must it be a damn IG post?! Let me sign a petition. Call me an old-fart, and ironic given this is Ms. Burnett's campaign, but I think having to film a video post might turn off a lot of people. Still, if it's for a good cause...

It isn’t a matter of how MANY people want this change. The Shuberts do not care about your or my opinion. But someone as legendary as Burnett encouraging other famous people to lend their support in a video could have a huge impact. As we saw, Chenoweth already made a video, and I bet others will follow in the next 48 hours.

My favorite theater director/producer. The fact that he hasn't been giving this honor and a campaign has to be started to get it done is disgraceful. But if this is what it takes to right that wrong I am all for it.

I know it's been discussed before but I forget the answer: has any director had a theater named after them before this (if this happens)?

"The Prince" sounds too Machiavellian for me, but "The Harold Prince" sounds wonderful.

Having Carol Burnett lead the charge on this one, makes it seem more likely to happen than one of us rallying for it on these boards or Twitter. Also, I didn't know Carol Burnett and Hal Prince were that close, outside of him directing her play "Hollywood Arms".

It has been gone for over 50 years, but George Abbott had a theatre named for him. It was the poor unloved theatre on 54th Street that was also known as the Craig, Adelphi and 54th Street Theatre, among other names.

How is the closure of a show that has been running for 35 years - basically two generations- a travesty?

Because of the real reasons behind its closure, as discussed elsewhere.

Hal is my theatrical idol. No-one else comes close. So I'm all for this. And it will be some small consolation after seeing one his masterworks ended prematurely only to be replaced (in due course) with the producer's pale imitation.

I know you're not new here, but if I may offer a suggestion to make your BWW experience a lot more pleasant, give the "Block User" feature a try. wink
