Poor Carrie
I find it hilarious that no one ever mentions Mary Martin in those tweets.

Great article about the production with a few pics from dress rehearsals.

Gaveston, auto-tuning a live performance is a very basic concept in 2013. But autotuning vocal lines as complex as these are not basic or simple. You're referring to the use of a certain technology that can handle the most basic melodies in R&B and Hip Hop, not Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Got it, Liza. Thank you for the kind correction.
Personally, I've seen SOM everywhere from national tours to amateur summer stock, so I'm quite used to erratic vocal performances. And as far as I'm concerned, the less auto-tune the better. I'd rather hear a wrong note now and then.
Don't forget, tonight is the "Making Of 'The Sound of Music'"

I am hosting a viewing party next Thursday for appx. 10-12 people with an Austrian-inspired dinner.
Does anyone know where to buy Austrian beer (preferably bottled Stiegel) and Austrian wine in Manhattan? I've been to all of the liquor stores in my neighborhood and they have every German beer and German wine imaginable but nothing Austrian. I also called some upscale liquor stores on the UES and found nothing.
I did find a store in California that sells Stiegel and Austrian wines but because of some obscure New York State law that goes back to prohibition they cannot ship to NYC.

I can't help, but I am shocked you can't find it!

I am enjoying the behind scenes special, but i wish they would stop focusing so much on the children!
I love "The Making Of" special how they keep basically saying "Its live...guys, it's live...ITS GOING TO BE LIVE!!!!!"

I don't know where you live, but have you tried anywhere in NJ? I'm talking close by like Jersey City or Bayonne. I was trying to see if Shoprite Liquor of either of those towns has what you are looking for, but I'm not sure. You could call and ask though before you make a trip out to NJ. Not sure if you are willing to do that either.

Yes, I have found liquor stores in Jersey that carry Stiegel but I don't own a car and I don't particularly want to carry a case of beer on the PATH train. I may have to rent a car this weekend and drive to Jersey (an added expense).
I really enjoyed that behind the scenes special. I like how they are placing "I Am Sixteen..." on the mountain instead of the mansion, and how they roll down the hill at the very end. The sets & costumes look fantastic, and everyone sounds wonderful. The only thing I didn't like was the wig that was on Carrie's head (if that was a wig...).

I loved the making of special. The sets and costumes from what I saw were beautiful! I love that 16 Going on 17 will take place in the mountains instead of just outside the villa. What a great idea and a perfect romantic date location! I also loved seeing Elsa wear black for the party held in her honor. It was sort of chilling, but in a good way.
They can auto tune live performances. Those GLEE children on tour had their voices being doctored as soon as they breathed into their mics. Ditto with lots of arena performers from Sarah Brightman to Madonna.
I'm pleasantly surprised to hear Carrie Underwood doing the Julie Andrews version of "DO RE MI."
A friend of mine taught me the word to describe Carrie Underwood's singing of the title track: Screlting.
Use it in a sentence today.

I really liked what I saw from the behind-the-scenes look at the show. The sets look amazing and the cast sounded wonderful while they were rehearsing.
Is Bernie Telsey really that nice or was it just because it was kids and there was a TV crew in his face? Pretty cool they brought Carrie in on the casting for the children.

Odd how they were so worried about the guy playing Friedrich and his voice possibly changing. They don't mention it again, but I guess it must have, because in a later clip they show Kurt singing the high note that normally is done by Friedrich.

She can't help herself. I've seen her live a few times and she scream-sings everything. She even manages to over-sing her ballads. She has a huge voice, but no sense of subtlety. The live version will be interesting.
“SHE DID IT! SHE’S ACTUALLY GOOD!”—My mom’s exact words, seeing and hearing Carrie Underwood as Maria at the parade just now with her jaw hanging literally.
........But Carrie has not performed.
I'm guessing she saw the commercial afterwards...
^^Yeah we saw the commerical

I kind wished Carrie and the kids performed, but I completely understand why they didn't.

I've watched all the videos, the show on nbc last night and the parade coverage. I think this is going to be a wonderful production. Carrie sounds great. Her duet with Audra on My Favorite Things will be, as Carrie described Audra last night, "open (their) mouths and butterflies will fly out, it's so beautiful."
The sets and costumes look magnificent. I think the cast will be wonderful. The thing I'm hoping most to see is a believable attraction between Maria and The Captain. If Carrie can nail that, she will have a win in my book. I think Stephen will do very well, too. I'm really looking forward to this! Hope it does great in the ratings so we will be able to see more of our favorite musicals live on TV!
