How is that even remotely appropriate? I love Underwood as a recording artist, but this is truly bizarre casting.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
this has trainwreck written all over it. Love Underwood, but she's not right for this.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Gotta agree here. Underwood is a phenomenal performer, but this just isn't right. There are PLENTY of vehicles they could try with Underwood (South Pacific, Annie Get Your Gun, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, hell maybe even Wicked) but Sound of Music? Sorry, gotta say PASS!

Odd that two of the shows you listed (South Pacific, Annie Get Your Gun) were both originally cast with Mary Martin, the original Maria Von Trapp on Broadway.
Annie Get Your Gun, yes, but if we're arguing about vocal type I can't say I see South Pacific working either. Maybe the odd song here and there, but overall, no. PS this is assuming she acts?
I think Carrie Underwood is a great performer in her field of music but I really don't know if her vocal chords can pull off Maria. Perhaps they may have to change the songs down a key. This casting just seems so strange to me.
How is a country Maria any more bizarre than a British Maria, or an non-country American Maria? Unless an Austrian singer is cast, whoever they hire will be the wrong type.

When did this become about accents? Have you ever heard a country singer? There's little to substantiate that stylistically, this is going to make sense. Style & tone = / = accent. That's just ridiculous.
I doubt any of you have gone to one of Carries concerts but its an incredible show. She puts alot of energy to making it perfect and I think she'll do the same with that. Even thought she can clearly sing I am sure she'll work with coaches to make it perfect.
