He mentions in that article that he needs the person from Aug. 5 which is rapidly approaching. I'm assuming we'll hear pretty soon, but I hope they weren't running out of options and are settling because of the deadline.
I think he's hinting that the announcement for the role will be made the first week of August, and is using the "heavy" four month schedule "demands" required to up-sell the commitment of the actress he is planning to cast. That only makes her look good and gives the project prestige ("this project is so important she's taking four months away from film and TV to do it...")
It's all a bit of a show biz rouge -- he needs someone who can do some occasional PR over the last months of summer and who is free for a month to rehearse and do the broadcast. If, say, Jennifer Lawrence wanted to do it and had only a month to commit to the project, they'd make it work.
Perhaps they weren't considering this when they picked an early December time slot, but that can be a problematic time both for actors on television series and those doing press junkets for late December (i.e. Oscar bait) film releases.
Kendrick may be committed to Press Junkets for INTO THE WOODS in early December which would potentially pose a scheduling conflict. I'm sure she's been considered.
If Anna has the opening that they are looking for I am sure she has been considered or in a negotiation. However, I am sure it will probably have to do with her film schedule ( pitch perfect 2, into the woods PR). Walken is wonderful news, and it's great to see the producing team digging into there well respected repertoire of actors that they have worked with. I do hope Benati will be back to play Mrs. darling.
A revised version of the article states they are "close" to confirming someone. Seems like a freakishly long rehearsal period.
But Walken? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Always yes.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
"He's one of the most unique actors in our business," Greenblatt said. "He might really just be a song and dance man at heart. ... This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."
My only worry is the amount of cue-card reading Walken's always done on his SNL episodes; more than their typical guest-hosts. Maybe a non-issue though since he's performed live theater before.... Sue is so FREAKING excited
