While I would've love to see Kristen Bell as Peter Pan she is pregnant with her second child and ya can't fly when your pregnant. She is playing Sheila in "HAIR" at the Hollywood Bowl while's expecting but her pregnancy CAN TOTALLY be hidden by the hippie peasant blouses.
Okay, I'm going to get attacked and it will be hold against me (I know some of you), but I don't care. My problem is I'm so tired of all of these random, famous people getting these parts in musicals for the hell of getting $$$ (Carly RJ in Cinderella, Vanessa Hudgens in the reading of Gigi, Carrie Underwood in Sound of Music and now apparently Katy Perry in Clueless?). It's like putting celebrities' faces on where you throw darts at and the closest person you can get or the face where the dart lands gets the part. I have no problem with people like Hugh Jackman, NPH, Alan Cummings, Michelle Willaims etc. But, when you put a random pop star/celebrity or whoever as the lead, just the hell for $$$ and/or viewers, it is really insulting to other Broadway stars who are much more qualified AND working actors who want and work for big breaks. It's really unfair. I know that it's show business and I understand (viewers), but like I said it's really greedy to give it Miley just for the heck of name. And yes, I can imagine Miley be possibly good as Peter. But, there could be MUCH people out there who deserve it, like Kristen Bell and Kristin Chenoweth.
Disney, I think you need to look at the reality of producing for network television, and be happy that NBC actually IS giving those big breaks to people like Laura Benanti and Christian Borle and Audra McDonald -- i.e. working theater actors who don't have the visibility to headline and draw ratings for a multimillion dollar television event. They need a star in the lead role so that they CAN continue to cast wonderful theater actors in supporting roles - and believe me it is a big break for these actors.
Miley Cyrus would make a terrific Peter Pan - she's actually perfect for the part, but I can't imagine that rumour being true.
"but like I said it's really greedy to give it Miley just for the heck of name. And yes, I can imagine Miley be possibly good as Peter. But, there could be MUCH people out there who deserve it, like Kristen Bell and Kristin Chenoweth."
What are you even talking about? Miley isn't taking the part away from Kristin because:
A) Kristin doesn't have time in her schedule to do it. She CHOSE to decline the offer, no one took the part away from her.
B) There is a big big chance Miley isn't playing Peter.
You are overreacting. It's like you think just because they are a name means they aren't worthy of the role...yet you have no problem with Jackman or Alan doing something like this...hypocrite.
Sorry DisneyBroadwayFan2 but we are talking National TV, a different animal than Broadway Theatre. Broadway patrons are a very small demographic. A "Broadway Star", if not a household name, will not make viewership happen. TV is a business to get viewership and ratings, an unkown , no matter how talented, will NOT get people to tune in. People not tuning in loses adertizing dollars and money needed to produce the show.
Those Blocked: SueStorm. N2N Nate. Good riddence to stupid! Rad-Z, shill begone!
Not a fan of Mile, her choices, or most of her music, but I feel like she'd make a good Peter. However, why the heck NBC would cast a controversial actress who makes a point to distance herself from anything child friendly blows my mind. I mean...it's Peter Pan. I highly doubt the rumor is true. The show would loose half its viewers before it even broadcasted.
Whether or not Miley might be good for the part of not is not really the issue in my mind. She is a big turn off to a lot of people..and I don't think NBC would want to take a chance with the less than favorable PR involved.
Its hard enough to put on a live show without extra drama -
Thank you, Michael. You did make me feel a little better about this casting if this is true or whatever. I mean it's great that Audra, Christian, and Laura got their big breaks from SOM, but it would be nicer if they're the leads (Not complaining), that's all. And like I said, Miley could be great as PP.
Disney, you are such a sweetheart, and expressing how you feel is fine. It does suck, but that's just the nature of the business. The only thing I have an issue with is that you spelled Alan Cumming's name wrong. No "s"
If Miley Cyrus played PETER PAN it would be a ratings bonanza because everyone would tune in to see what the hell she was going to do. NBC would love the controversy. LOVE IT.
And for what its worth I think Cyrus is dumb like a fox and her entire 'renegade' persona is completely an act. I have no doubt she could deliver a terrific polished performance. She's not Lindsay Lohan.
"She is a big turn off to a lot of people..and I don't think NBC would want to take a chance with the less than favorable PR involved."
I agree, she has done a lot of weird stuff over the past year, most notably the VMA performance, and I don't think a lot of parents would want their kids to watch Peter Pan if she is starring in it. They need a "family friendly" person and she hasn't been that for years.
