She came into a restaurant I was working in years ago and I was so thrilled to meet her. What a talent! She paved the way for black women in film...RIP

Her memoir "Just As I Am" was released two days ago, to great reviews. She couldn't even enjoy them. Here's what Hollywood Reporter had to say (love the Elizabeth Taylor story):

What a legend, what a career! RIP
So grateful that I got to see her magnificent performance in The Trip to Bountiful. She had that audience in the palm of her hand.

Posted: 1/28/21 at 8:59pmI can hear her line in Fried Green Tomatoes “Ms. Ruth was a lady, and a lady always knows when it’s time to leave”. She was the very definition of class and will be greatly missed...RIP

This was actually the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the news.

Of course the line is “Miss Ruth was a lady. And a lady always knows when to leave.” (Just to quote a legend correctly)

Thank you Jordan! Sadly we’re running out of legends to quote as of late...

Just yesterday, I watched this documentary from "American Masters" on PBS (How It Feels To be Free). Cicely Tyson was featured along with other greats: Lena Horne, Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone, Diahann Carroll and Pam Grier. See it if you can.
A remarkable woman among remarkable women.

Cicely Tyson died at 96 and I realized that I never expected her to die...she was and is immortal. I was fortunate to see her in Bountiful and The Gin Game and was amazed by her performance choices as well as her ability to be at the top of her powers at 88 and 90. And now she is gone; luckily, she will always be there sipping from the water fountain and running barefoot to welcome her husband home, IMO two of the greatest scenes on film.
I read multiple obituaties, including the NYTimes, and was amazed that they did not mention her Kennedy Center Honors, IMO more impressive than Oscars, Emmys or Tonys, all of wich she had.
