many of you here are being super weird and obsessive in a way that needs inward reflection

But it’s important to remember that these performers are human beings, not machines. They deal with personal challenges—mental, physical, or otherwise—just like the rest of us. After reading the article featuring Megan Hilty (who, by the way, delivers an incredible performance), it’s clear how demanding this job really is. Let’s show a little grace and compassion. They deserve it."
It’s simple she knew after the out of town try outs if she can’t handle it. Megan can make other appearances thou ? Complaining about high heels ? Give the girl slippers.
Jenn needs to just go to feature roles again
time to let the standbys shine
If you cannot handle 8 performances and do not have the leverage to have a reduced schedule, theatre is not for you. Yes, they are humans and life happens, but that is the gig. Can’t do it? Don’t sign the contract.

We get it. You all think they're either lazy bums who are calling out for no reason or should still perform when they have documented injuries.
This must have been what it was like when Laura Benanti was calling out during Into the Woods for what was later revealed to be a neck injury. Oh, if BWW had been around then.

No, you can know why someone is struggling at work and still be able to think “hmm, perhaps time to move on?” without being a monster.

Laura after called out plenty of times in other shows.
Didn't Hilty also have poor attendance during WICKED?

Unless it was when she did the tour, no. Her attendance was fine in the Broadway production.

Saw DBH last night for the third time and it was even better than my last time. Megan and Jen are really fighting for that Tony nomination! Too bad Megan is struggling, she was impeccable last night
The more I see this show the more I wish I had a vote for the Tonys. I think Jennifer is the star of this season. Both are fabulous. And all other nominees have earned their right to be there. But boy oh boy is Jennifer just so delicious in this.

IIRC, the first surgeon she went to didn't fix her neck injury properly, but she didn't know. She also was thrown under the bus by Woods producers and pressured to come back to work early during Nine after the (unbeknownst to her) failed operation. So she continued to perform on Broadway with herniated discs in her neck for 9-ish years. I don't believe it was truly fixed until sometime around In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play. And the surgeon who ended up doing the correct operation was shocked she could even walk with the state her neck was in.

I agree. Megan definitely is giving her full 100% as Madeline in this on every level but Jennifer’s Helen has the character arc that showcase’s Jennifer’s expansive gifts. As she’s stated, this role encapsulates every showcase role she’s ever played so it’s fully using everything she has to offer as a performer.

From NYT article released today...the reasoning Megan has been missing a lot of shows. Show should definitely have had more transparency; but I understand since it is medical related,
TWIST AND SHOUT I was just recently diagnosed with tendinitis in my throat, because of the physical stuff I do with my neck in the show. It pulls on my voice box and I ultimately have to call out of the show if it’s affecting my voice and it’s too painful.

It was posted on the last page at #594, and was met with a distinct lack of sympathy from some who claim she should have known after the Chicago run that she couldn't handle it and sneering about the breakfast dates with her husband.
Chris has been out. Has anyone seen Bud Weber's take on Ernest?

Bud is a very good Ernest. Perhaps a little young. If you’ve seen them both you do certainly notice what incredible work Sieber is doing. It is a shame he wasn’t nominated for a Tony. It isn’t the showiest of roles. But he is sublime. Not easy being a straight man to those two.

Lol, not at all. She had great attendance for all of her runs (Broadway, Tour, and both Los Angeles stints). Some understudy coverage here and there, but both Shoshana and Eden were out more often than Megan was with them.
Yeah it was such a crowded field for best featured actor this year, but Sieber is in fact doing Tony-worthy work. Truth is, we could get a worthy full slate of musical tony noms without nominating any of the actual nominees. This year is really an embarrassment of riches. But watching the officially released video of "The Plan" over and over again reminds me why Sieber is top of my "shoulda been nominated" list. He's just so, so subtle in his work.
One of my favorite moments in his performance is in "that was then, this is now", when Helen sings "You let me wear my retainer and CPap Machine, you don't care!" and his face goes slack and he gets a haunted look in his eyes. Hysterical.
I definitely would have recognized Sieber, as well. He has a tough role and he nails it- he's able to be the straight man to all the craziness while also being a little crazy on his own. I especially love his delivery of, "Let's buy a boat in Hawaii and name it WE'RE MUR-DER-ERRRRRRS."

Simard's out tonight. Natalie Charle Ellis on.
I think ( But not sure ) that Bud is on as Ernest tonight as well.
I saw all four principals last night and thanking my lucky stars! They were all absolutely on fire! Really disappointed Sieber missed out on a Tony nom - he really was so great as Ernest.
Simard and Hilty are out of today’s matinee as well. Now that Tony voting has closed, why show up?

At this point, nobody is surprised when they call out.
