Dreamgirls Revival Taking Shape - Hudson to Reprise Effie?

There is a reality show on BET right now called One Night Only. It is about a high school putting on a production of Dreamgirls. I read about it on the Dreamgirls blog a few weeks ago. Anyone seen it?

Dreamgirls Revival Taking Shape - Hudson to Reprise Effie?

If we had to cast a Dreamgirls revival with only past American Idol contestants, I think it would be as follows:

Deena: Either Vonzell or Tamyra
Lorell: Either LaToya or Trenyce
Effie: J-HUD (duh...) and... hmm... uh...

Exactly how old is Capathia Jenkins?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I would LOVE for her to do the Role. Also, and I'm not expert at all, but I've heard that Jennifer Holliday's "lack of non-Dreamgirls work" wasn't necessarily attributed to the fact that they could only see her as Effie, but more due to something like she wasn't as good of an actress as she needed to be.

At any rate, I don't think that Jennifer Hudson would get "stuck" as Effie, should she do it on Broadway. I would also love to see Anika Noni Rose do "Dreamgirls on Broadway too. Perhaps even as Deena.

I just heared on E yesterday that this is still being worked on and that the 3 women (Beyonce, Anika, and of course J-Hud) would all be offered their roles before anyone else. Any truth to this? I would love to see all of them.

I give that zero chance of happening. Of course the producers are going to offer it to them first, but do you really think Beyonce Knowles is up to an 8 performance week with a salary cut? They really ought to move Anika Noni Rose up to Deena, bring along Jennifer Hudson, and recast Lorell.

i don't see anika noni rose as "deena" *at all* ~ she has the wrong look and the wrong voice for the part, she's not the "deena" type.
i want to see new performers in *all* the major roles.
if i wanted to see beyonce, jennifer and anika i could just go to the local cineplex.

i would settle for seeing jhud in concert singing those beautiful songs.
at this point in her career she shouldn't pigeon hole herself in one role.

Loretta Devine is almost 60 years old. Yes, she's too old to play Effie (or any other role in the show) now.

I really can't see any of these women returning unless it was as a brief concert-style thing.
Honestly, I'm still hoping Anika Noni Rose will be Dorothy in a revival of "The Wiz"

Isn't Noni Rose already attatched to the "Porgy and Bess" transfer coming in next season?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

IF revival happens I'm pretty sure Noni Rose will not be taking part of it; now, it'd be great if they indeed produced the TV film of the show that she was supposed to star in.
She has been rumored for the Porgy & Bess revival but so far no official announcements have been made. I still think she'd make a fab Deena.

Anika needs to keep herself working in films. That is where the money is. She should continue to try to book films while the iron is hot. She can come back to theatre anytime.
