I have no stake in it, but I can definitely see him adding a bit more of a rocker menace (like Alice Cooper), as opposed to Gad likely being hammier than Easter dinner.

I’m curious as to how they had Stamos as a backup choice since that’s such a HARD left from Gad and I’m wondering how it will influence the production

I’d imagine they sent emails out to a couple of agencies and asked for suggestions of B or above name actors and then made a direct offer. They may have offered to several before Stamos based on the time this has taken to announce.

Someone suggested Paul F. Tompkins, which works, but two other television comedians I would have loved to see: Will Arnett, or Charlie Day. I think Arnett could match the pitch-black nastiness of Rik Mayall's version, and I have zero idea what Charlie Day would do.

He may be a nice guy but he did say in an interview with Jane Magazine that when he was younger he initiated sex with a woman, and then when the lights were off, he had his friend Who resembled him take his place without her even knowing it. So he helped rape a woman. Nice guy indeed

Well, it's a horrible story, and he abetted a crime, but it happened 40 years ago and he's saying it's the worst thing he's ever done to someone. I can't say that this particular fact has much effect on my judgment of him in 2025. (He's definitely made questionable choices in the recent past, which I find much more relevant.)
