Don't act like you came in here as the only one knowing anything about the original. Who is to say that fans of the original can't fall in love with the revival? Nobody, and certainly not you.

And just because something is your opinion sure as hell doesn't make it a "reality". You know damn well you came in here and said those things to a group of people who cared a lot about this and certainly don't want to hear demeaning things because they like something you don't seem to.

Well, the fact that you give a response like that, as opposed to having a discussion like you claim you're looking for, does a lot for the situation.

If you want a discussion, have one; but dude, be willing to have one in which people don't always necessarily agree with you. Rather, instead of having a discussion, you're just responding with snarky, down-talking remarks to people who disagree. It's obnoxious, the easy way out, and certainly doesn't make you look the wiser, as you apparently think you are -- or rather, apparenly too good to have a normal, produtive discussion.

Wilde's words may be wise, but not when interpreted to mean that you take pains to disagree with everyone in order to feel raised up, and think you must do so in order to be better. Surely if you are so wise as to compare yourself to Oscar Wilde, you would understand the implicit difference between naturally maintaining opinions that happen so often to be different that you might make such an observation and pointedly taking a holier-than-thou stance for self-promotional purposes.

Simply, I cannot believe you just compared yourself to Oscar Wilde.

It's touring next year.

Company is gorgeous. I think that, as sorry as I am to see Sweeney go, the loss is not as great as it could be -- because while it's still gone, Broadway won't be without a piece that gives the sort of punch I've really only felt watching Doyle's Sondheim productions.

I've avoided posting in this thread mainly because I sold my ticket to the closing show due to , among other things, lack of interest.

Then I heard that someone actually fell to the ground weeping at the stage door after the show.

Guys, it was a good Broadway show. Okay, a great one. But so was DRS. So was Inishmore. What in the hell has warranted such an attachment to this show? Is it that the cast was so accessible and people have gotten used to seeing them at the stage door so often? And I'm not saying that snidely. I'm asking a serious question here. Because, while it was a wonderful production, I just don't get what all this drama is about.

Well, then I have indeed achieved my goal. Oh, and I AM terribly sorry we're not all union actors and as utterly AMAZING as you are. We all walk around in Wicked jackets rushing all. the. time. No need to brag about your 18 years, sweetheart. I am neither jealous of you, nor do I aspire to your achievements.

From someone who was there, I wouldn't doubt someone collapsing. I didn't see anyone collapse in tears but I did interact with some incredibly rude people who didn't seem to think the giant barriers on the street applied to them. I also got tackled by a girl and her little brother whose dad wouldn't let anyone leave without talking to his kids.

I happen to be a big fan of this show and the people in it, but I'm not going to give up my dignity just so I can meet somebody who just happens to be in the show. I actually had a girl behind me yell and scream at her mother for not getting out of the theatre in time to be able to be close enough to see Manoel. I just think people are so worried that they might not get to interact with their favorite people in the world and try to do anything just so they can get attention. I certainly do not understand the emotional link some people can have with shows. Maybe I'm a robot or something.

I loved the show from the first time I saw it back in December. I went to the stagedoor for the first time 3 weeks ago. I've never messaged the cast on MySpace. I've never bought a t-shirt from them or a poster or gone to a concert.

I can be upset (not *crying*, just disappointed) about the show closing without some sort of ulterior motive in my attachment. Other than vaguely knowing who Michael and Patti were, I didn't know of anyone in the cast when I saw it, but that didn't keep me from gushing about it to random people for months afterwards. It's an amazing production of an amazing show. Why are people convinced there HAS to be some other reason for audiences to like it?
