The King and I wasn't filmed because the closing date was announced rather abruptly and they didn't have time to get everything together.
No, definitely a conspiracy against Taste from the Secret Order of the Unpleasant and Dirty Powers That Be.

Whenever I read PBS I get incredibly sad, since I can't access it from Europe / Germany. Well, at least I got to watch She Loves Me. Maybe one day in the future there will be a way. I would love to watch this beautiful production.
Outstanding news!
I don't think I can stand another bloated, 3-hour TV version of a "classic", where I have to watch the cast drive from set to set in a tram.

Nothing stopping them from waiting until after the tour to air it, though. Also not buying the closing thing, since if they wanted to film it, they would have done it with Kelli...
Speaking of unaired Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts, I had heard that The Secret Garden concert was filmed this past year and would be airing on PBS? Is that still happening? Imagine if we could get Falsettos, Secret Garden and King and I! (I know, very unlikely, but one can dream :) )
Again - The King & I was not filmed so it will not be airing on television.
Haterobics - Per a friend of mine in the show, the sudden closing IS the reason it was not filmed.

I believe that there are VPN solutions which will allow you to impersonate a location in the US. I recall I used "hola" to see Gypsy from the UK (If I recall correctly)

And Theater Close-Up if you're not in NYC/CT.

It played for well over a year, though... like Shuffle Along seems more like a sudden closing.
Yeah but the closing was sudden enough that there just wasn't time to get it done. Sadly.

It's a shame. It was a glorious production.
i find the "sudden closing" argument sort of laughable. The producers, Lincoln Center, are the ones who own the theatre and who would have filmed it. So if Lincoln Center Live wanted to film it, Lincoln Center would have kept it open. That's just how I'm viewing it though
Hoping they film tour though.
If you understood the specifics of keeping a show open, you'd realize what you wrote makes no sense.

They are not going to keep it open if it is no longer making money. Don't forget Lincoln Center is a subscription based company. If it isn't making fists full of dollars, then it is better for the company and its subscribers to let it close.
Filming a show is VERY expensive and complicated. It involves agreements with multiple unions and involves a great deal of pay negotiations. If it was already not worth keeping open, then they certainly won't keep it open just to film it. It is really a very valid excuse.
My angel of music Jan. 6, amped, seeing a foursome in 5 days our 25th, and time with our daughter.
This announcement and hearing a judge say, "I now pronounce you married" are the two best things I've heard this year.
If that was yours sir it was a great year. Was this a mistake on the thread?
It was my wedding, indeed! And I was upset that there was no way I could get up to NYC to see Falsettos, so I'm thrilled to hear this news. I saw the original Broadway production with my dad and it was a very special memory (and he claimed it was "as good as Les Miz", which was the highest compliment my dad gave any show because he was OBSESSED with Les Miz and saw it over a dozen times). Today would have been his 71st birthday and I know he would have been so excited about this news.
Planned for this, been obsessed with this diva since I saw Wicked in Fort Lauderdale on the first tour. That it's going to be forever makes me happy. Thanks PBS.
Cannot WAIT. The months until fall will be worth it though.
What a great Christmas present! I don't mind waiting. If I can wait 25 years for the third season of Twin Peaks, I can wait 9 or 10 months for this! Just thrilled the performances and production are being preserved!
I'm seeing this next Tuesday, but this makes me excited. It will be nice to revisit it in the future.

Very excited to hear this. Of course, they could announce an airing of almost any Broadway show and I'd be happy. I think it would open the nation up to a heightened appreciation of what Broadway is all about. These Fox/NBC trinkets don't make it happen.
