Well I guess if it kills every doctor and nurse in this country that takes it over the next month, I guess we will know pretty quick.

I’m not an anti-vaxxer by any means, but I definitely have some reservations about a vaccine we know little about that has been created and distributed in record time. I’m skeptical about the risks and effectiveness, and I’m also realistic that - even vaccinated - we’ll need to continue wearing masks and social distancing for the foreseeable future.
I’m as excited about theaters re-opening as the next person, but “vaccine availability by April” doesn’t mean “theaters open in June” to me.

Maybe theaters can open in the fall? Here's hoping.
We have to remember that as of now there are “two vaccines” by April/May we could have up to four or five on the market as well, which is gonna help in a major way.

I think it's conceivable that some shows can start to open in the fall (I'd imagine the first back will be Hamilton, as has been reported elsewhere, and the new productions that could most give Broadway a shot of adrenaline - The Music Man, Plaza Suite and the return of American Utopia. (The dates for Plaza Suite will have to move again, surely - it's scheduled for this summer but won't happen that soon. American Utopia is scheduled to return Sept. 17th, which sounds more plausible, especially as they won't need much rehearsal, and The Music Man smartly has its first preview scheduled for Dec. 20th, which will be more than a year from when the first vaccines went out to the first people).
Regarding anti-vaccers and whether or not people will get the shots, hough, you can bet that the fine print we all never read on all those Telecharge and Ticketmaster terms of service will be updated to include something like "By purchasing seats for this performance, the ticketholder assumes all responsibility for any airborne illnesses that may be contracted on the premises." Nothing that wasn't already understood, mind you, for everything from the common cold to perfume allergies – but I'm certain it will be more explicitly laid out. So that when the New York Post inevitably runs a headline saying "They Caught Covid at Come From Away", or "Broadway Bodily Breakdown: Caroline, Or Covid?", no one involved with the productions, the theaters, or the ticketing agents can be in any way held liable for others' failure to inoculate themselves.
Trump administration officials passed when Pfizer offered in late summer to sell the U.S. government additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine, according to people familiar with the matter. Now Pfizer may not be able provide more of its vaccine to the United States until next June because of its commitments to other countries, they said.
So, there's that.

Ok, that was just too weird. David Muir was was speaking those exact words on my tv as I was reading them!

To those responding to me about the Tuskegee experiments...all I can say is YIKES. Consider me having learned something new yet again about the deep rooted racism of this nation...good lordt.
I'm not anti vaccinations but I'll probably wait until late 2021 and maybe just 2022 at this point to get the vacinne but I'll just keep wearing a mask and avoiding events till then. Simply don't have any desire to rush out and get this one when I won't be putting anyone at risk based on my situation.

I have a friend in the UK who told me tonight their Pfizer vaccinations start tomorrow. She will be in the second round and states will not receive her vaccine until middle 2021.
If you want to understand what Dr. Fauci is saying in a non-soundbite sort of way, have a look at his visit to Cuomo's news briefing today. While the non-priority process can BEGIN in April, it is gonna take until the Fall. Gee, where have I heard that before.

I wonder if Broadway can survive being on hold for that long.

It cannot just come back when everyone feels ready. We may be optimistic, but one cannot simply "turn it back on" and get it going as we see fit.
I may be alone thiking this but the longer this takes, the more it damages the industry. It will be very tough to convince most that live theater at a multi million dollar scale is sustainable.
I could certainly see half the houses closing and turned into stores if the come back doesn't pack a punch.
I truly hope I'm dead wrong, but I don't think it's realistic to believe we will wait 5-10 years pushing for Broadway to be what it was financially. Yes, it will exist, but who knows at what scale.
It's important that we don't underestimate the power of capitalism here.
The global economy can't go through another summer like the one we just had, and parents are going to want schools to be able to return to normal ASAP as well.
Once these vaccines start really rolling out, things are going to start opening back up in a major way. Of course what is sad is that if we actually lived in a country that cared, we would all be paid to stay home for the winter so that we really could safely reopen this spring with the vaccines in place.

I agree it is not suddenly going to be business as usual, but I am having trouble imagining what would make people think it is not sustainable based on a pandemic that took (say) 3 years to recover from. (It is also unclear to me who these "most" are you are referring to.) London survived WWII, etc etc etc, The theatres have nowhere to go, and most are owned in fee simple. If we could survive the devastating effect of the building of the Marriott, we could survive its loss, if it came to that. (And we just might rejoice.) You say we won't wait, but where are we going. Patience.
Broadway has had plenty of lean seasons- look at the mid 80s and 90s.

There was an article today about the Brits getting offered both the Oxford as well as the Pfizer vaccine.

the math of how many doses we will have by April does not make these statements add up...speculation but yeah theater is not coming back this summer, atleast not Broadway
Yes, I agree. It will take months for the majority of people to get vaccinated. There might not be enough in a certain county or state, and other problems may arise. I see Broadway opening in the Fall.
If Kevin McCollum and the producing team of Hamilton are looking for a poetic reopening, I think it would still be too risky on July 4. Instead, I imagine it would be much more possible to swing open the Rodgers doors again on September 17- Constitution Day. After all, Alexander Hamilton is known for writing the bulk of the Federalist Papers, which supported the document.
Other shows would subsequently follow suit.

That is great news! I'm sure some will be leery of it because of how quickly it was put out and while I'm not an anti-vaxxer - I hope it's tested more before they require kids to have it - as they respond differently than adults do. That said - a friend of mine who recently retired early was actually in one of the Pfizer trials and he's positive he didn't get the placebo as he has the antibodies now, apparently. He said it was like a reaction to a pneumonia or flu shot. He had a sore arm and a low grade fever for 2 days - and that was it. NO other side effects - and this guy isn't the picture of health - he's around 60, slightly overweight, and has high blood pressure - so I will be absolutely ready for this when it is released to the general public - I want to go shows again :)

Those are words I never expected to see in the same sentence.
Apologies... I forgot he wasn’t on board for this. Jeffrey Seller, Oskar Eustis, Sander Jacobs, and Jill Furman are leading the charge. Brain fart.
