I'd Give My Life For You and I Still Believe

It's not one of my favorites as a whole, but I actually do rather like the sequence from "This Is the Hour" through the end of act one.
I love MISS SAIGON despite its flaws, so I could list a handful of the big numbers as favourites. If I had to choose one, though, it would be "I'd Give My Life For You".
What do you think are the flaws of "Miss Saigon"?
I think the original production was to big. You don't need a huge cast or a helicopter to tell such an intimate story. However, always keep the huge orchestra - the orchestrations are heaven!
"Last Night of the World". Also my favorite love song from all of musical theatre. Mostly because of the amazing chord progression that is also heard at the end of "I Still Believe".
Why God, Why, with the exception of some peculiar lyrics.

the flaws for me are some of the lyrics... not a fan of the "big mac" line... the "nice ass" bit...
in the hands of lesser actors/actresses the lyrics can come across really cheesy and hokey like in Sun and Moon...
the songs to the show are quite beautiful but if you have a not so good cast that can't act then the shows flaws are evident... well for me that is...

I still believe and Please (I love the original cut song that tune came from: Too much for one heart).
Not a popular opinion, but...
Morning Of The Dragon. I love the triple counterpoint that builds from the Vietnamese chorus, the epic/cinematic John Williams feel of the music, and the way the orchestrations blend Vietnamese sounds, French colonial influence and British-American cinema music together into a single piece.
^ I agree with Morning of the Dragon.
For some reason I really like What a Waste a lot, but I'm in love with If You Want to Die in Bed as well.
Sun and Moon, I Still Believe, The Movie in My Mind, and Now That I've Seen Her.

"The Last Night of the World." Knowing that it's the last time they're together... oh man.

I admit it. I am sucker for the entire score. "I'll still believe" is right up at the top of my list but most everything else is really close by right behind it.
In spite of the fact that the actual helicopter is not necessary and is somewhat distracting, the music when Kim and Chris lose each as the helicopter takes off is breathtaking.
And yes the orchestrations are amazing and I never get tired of hearing the score.
I love it also. Hard to choose a favorite, but I particularly love:
Sun and Moon
I Still Believe
This Is the Hour

I like "I Still Believe" and "I'd Give My Life For You" the best. I like "Please" a lot, too, but whenever I think about it in my mind it morphs into the prelude from Lohengrin! :)

I love the angelic parts Kim sings in between of the big numbers.
For example, right after Ellen and Chris made the decision in the hotel room, Kim sings her thoughts "I still taste your kisses....Your voice sings in my ear...You can betray what we were yesterday, but you'll come back tonight for him..."
I also love the part between Kim and Thuy in "back in town". Where you hear the melody of "The morning of the dragon", "On silent feet it came", and Thuy sings: "You hear those soldiers outside....they'll do whatever I say. Then Kim sings "I cannot change what I feel", and Thuy sings "I think you can change before my eyes...."(calls soldiers inside) "This me-my has just been found...she hid the day we closed the bars. Show her that we don't forget, no-one betrays us without scars".
Another favorite part of mine is when the Engineer holds Tam, and sings "So they must let us in...in...the playground of mankind.....the movie in my mind". And then the final part of act 1, where the 3 of them walk towards the boat at night and you hear the chorus building up.
