Oh well, in that case if Jen Tepper said it... (excuse me while I vomit).
She's a former Ken Davenport intern, and let's say the apple doesn't fall very far...
Any moment now the Kickstarter should be up and running to raise money for them to appear on the Tonys!

A paid performance on the Tonys would help, yes. I can imagine CBS is seething by the lack of it which could've brought in younger viewers.
King Kong and Pretty Woman are the two shows in immediate danger."
KONG and PRETTY WOMAN will undoubtedly appear on the Tonys. Maybe KK can hand out Best Musical??

Oh, that's a painful read, especially when the ten previous posts were all about how hopeful she was about nominations morning...
Here is the thing though. BMC might seem like it's going fine, but this is a moment that matters. This is a day when people are running to get tickets for things because "oh wow x nominations, this MUST be a MUST see." You can't look simply at the grosses week to week and consider that all that matters because it's the advance that matters. Every show has peeks of when they have to look at their advance and see what their future is like. First, when the tickets go on sale. Second, when the reviews come out. We are now at the third one, Tony Nomination day. You will see articles tomorrow about which shows saw huge jumps in advance sales tomorrow morning. One nomination for score is going to do little for their advance right now. So their last and final hope is at the fourth jump, the day after the Tony awards. Hence why a killer performance is key for them now. If Score ended up being an award given during commercials this year, it will not even get a mention on the live broadcast at ALL even and it will do nothing for advance sales for them. They NEED to take the risk and shell out the money to perform or they will never reach people beyond their current fanbase.
The thing is... will a performance on the Tonys even do much? Their other TV performances have not been particularly well-received, or very helpful in ticket sales. I think they have a ceiling on how much they can sell given that this is pitched to a very limited audience, one without much buying power. I think the grosses hint at this.
They can put forward how many millions of streams the cast album got, but at the end of the day... streaming a cast album is free. Going to New York City to see a Broadway show is expensive.

^ This. All this. You are 1000% on point here. That's why it's their only chance and a risk at the same time. Without it, they have no chance, but they will not pour more money into a sinking ship. With it, they might see a pick up in the advance but will it even be enough to cover the cost of the risk in the first place?

I get where she's coming from. She does co-host "If It Only Even Runs A Minute." But did I miss something about Be More Chill? It doesn't seem like the show that's bringing the revolution. Isn't it about a straight white boy who feels inadequate but wishes he could win the pretty girl?
Be More Chill was always a gamble, so if it closed up by the end of summer I don't think anyone would be shocked.
I'm curious to see how long King Kong stays on and if they design it to tour.

I'm about the furthest thing you could get from a fan of Be More Chill, but there's no way they're closing any time soon with the fan base they have. I'm pretty sure their ticket sales are very good. If anything were to close, my feeling is that it would be Pretty Woman.

Honestly, whether or not they pay for a performance will be pretty interesting. It'll tell how strong their advances are and how they see fit. I still think summer will carry the show straight thru to be able to stay afloat til the holidays. Nothing about their current numbers says anything truly dire.
How is Pretty Woman doing? I feel like 0 nominations may be a red flag, but I also feel like 40+ year old women who love the movie will see it regardless.

There's a huge difference between "fan base" and "full price ticket buyers".

Hilarious that huckster K.D. is mentioned here!

I think Pretty Woman may be forced to shutter soon, without any noms they don't really have much of a way to be recognized other than nostalgic fans.
Be More Chill might be gone by the end of the year- I don't see them lasting past December 2019. The cast is all very optimistic, but optimism can't get butts into seats. Their grosses are hit or miss thus far, but unless the teenaged fans can afford to go constantly, it can't hold on like that always. I plan to see it in June when grosses drop because even though I already saw it off-Broadway might as well see how the changes worked out... I'd assume for the worst based on the newer parts I've listened to. It'll be such an easy rush due to finals season that I'd expect June to be brutal and July/June to be up a bit before a major crash in September.
Haven't seen much advertisements for Pretty Woman and has Be More Chill done any TV promotions?
I feel like Cher Show has a ton of new advertising.
“Pretty Woman” was at 95% last week. The show isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s audience is Bridge & Tunnel and tourists who want a safe show they know they’ll like and these people don’t even know what the Tony Awards are. So sadly, it looks like the Nederlander is gonna have this in their theatre for a long while.

Has Jennifer Tepper always been this annoying?

I feel like the whole BMC team has been bordering on obnoxious with how great they think their show is. It's like they can't even conceive that the nominators thought the other shows were better. And does anyone want to tell her that 300M streams doesn't mean 300M people?
I agree. The entire community including the fans, cast, crew, and everyone involved are just a little too vocal with the whole "WE DONT CARE ABOUT AWARDS WE ARE FOR THE PEOPLE". It's just not believable at this point.
BWWs determination to bring BMC down is hilarious to me.
Grosses are an issue
- It makes more money than The Prom every week
Plot is an issue
- Dear Evan Hansen, about a lame white boy who wants to win the pretty girl is lauded as best of the century
Producer is irritating
- who....cares?
We all have our opinions, and that’s fine. But the fact that a few loud voices on this board have made it seem like BMC is this terrible show that deserves nothing is just...ridiculous to me? Skewing and forcing narratives that thousands of people read just for the purpose of spreading hate is insane.
Sure, I’m biased because I love the show. You can’t tell me Beetlejuice is a better musical, it’s absolutely not. But that’s my opinion. I’m not a teenager. I’m not a fan girl. The fan base is wide and varied and I wish more users on here had a more open point of view on new and unknown things.
I think Pretty Woman will prove itself well to stunt casting.
Side note, does anyone know if Jen Tepper is related to businessman David Tepper? I've always wondered but never found anything online
