OMG. Ruth Wilson, Elizabeth Marvel, and Jayne Houdyshell are joining this! What a cast!!!

Wow! What a cast! I’m very excited for this. Also, in addition to Houdyshell just being a brilliant actor, I’m excited by the idea of a female Gloucester. Gloucester and Lear are paralleled heavily as the “wronged fathers,” so with a female Lear, it only makes sense to have a female Gloucester. I can’t wait to see her “eye” scene.

I’m intrigued by the choice of Sam Gold. When Glenda played Lear in London, the complaints were mostly about Deborah Warner’s direction, which was extremely bizarre and experimental (though I actually really liked it). I assumed that the reason Rudin decided to bring in a brand new production without Warner was to create a more traditional production to keep the focus on Glenda. But with Gold at the helm, this will surely not be a traditional production. Personally though, I’m fine with that. As I said earlier, I don’t like Lear in its traditional form. So I say bring on the weirdness!

Incidentally, this will be the first time I’ve ever seen an actor play the same role in 2 completely separate productions of a play or musical!

I know a casting notice went out that was looking for actors with sign language experience, so maybe something in that realm?

It looks like Michael Arden and John McGinty have joined the cast, though it's unclear who they're playing. Curious to see how Sam Gold interpolates the ASL elements.
