‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ review: George Clooney makes his Broadway debut in a sleepy newsroom play

This is kinda critic proof, yes?
I mean it could be ripped to shreds and it would still be the hottest ticket in town?

Much like Othello. Critics don’t matter.

True. But I had no interest in seeing this until the reviews came out and now I am much more intrigued. So unlike Othello and Glengarry Glen Ross, these reviews may increase demand further for others like me.
According to Did They Like It?, Good Night, and Good Luck received 7 positive reviews, 9 mixed reviews, and 5 negative reviews.

This and Redwood were the two worst shows I saw on Broadway this season. Green is a troll or being paid off.

Review: Clooney, Fair and Balanced, in ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’
George Clooney makes Edward R. Murrow a saint of sane journalism for a world that still needs one in a stage adaptation of the 2005 movie.

Wild. It’s way past time for a new chief theater critic at The Times."
Y'all hated Jesse Green since he didn't give a glowing review on Prima Facie.
Let it go.
Yeah, you’re the only one still creepily obsessed with that. Pretty weird, actually. It makes me seriously question why you’re so dead set on trashing a show with a message against rape and silencing/not believing rape victims. This is beyond just disliking her performance, it’s an obsession. You bring it up weekly. Wouldn’t want my kids or women anywhere near you, dude.

Who is “y’all”? I didn’t even remember his review for that show…

Jesse? Is that you? In any case, you should know he delegitimized himself with the first words he put in print in the NYT with his participation in that b*tchy King Kong review and the fact that he markedly changed how he reviewed shows the moment he left New York Magazine. Desperately wants to be Brantley but has never and will never have that level of influence.
Anyway. This show could have gotten pans across the board and still grossed what it’s grossing. The complaints about ticket prices wholly ignore simply supply and demand. People are willing to pay what they’re charging. Broadway is a business and businesses are for making money. The pearl clutching every time a show is a success and has prices that reflect that is so bizarre. It’s not like they’re trying to pretend they’re accessible prices. There are plenty of EXCELLENT shows both on and off Broadway with accessible price points (often starting under $60), yet people refuse to see them and then wonder why Broadway is packed with celebrities and their star vehicles and out of the other side of their mouth whine they can’t afford to see said celebrities. Truly moronic.

100%. No question.

That's way too harsh. My point was that it infantilizes the issue and has been stated by many reviewers, not just Green, that it may not be as pungent as it assume it is. And yes, Comer can't act. She thinks if she yells a lot, it's "good". Well, it isn't.
Meanwhile, a much more feminist work from Chastain and Ibsen got completely shut out, despite getting in for best revival, when Prima Facie couldn't muster a Play nom. Chastain gave us subtlety and strength from a woman whose entire life has been nothing but abused. It treated the audience like adults and the characters were actually characters.
Don't be throwing around accusations like that. You will never know who I am.

Okay but you bring it up constantly. It’s been years. No one is talking about Prima Facie anymore. She won a Tony and the show closed. You’ve expressed your opinion many, many times and it’s quite frankly bizarre that you can’t stop bringing it up. Build a bridge and get over it.
DTLI Consensus: George Clooney spits the facts in this hit-and-miss show about journalistic integrity.
9 mixed, 7 positive (including the NYT), 5 negative.

"Making clear-as-day the similarities between those long ago days of McCarthyite propaganda and today’s Trumpian “alternative facts,” not to mention a news media that’s often either too cowed or too overwhelmed to call a lie a lie,Good Night, and Good Luckis too knowing or too winking by half to seem like anything other than rather uninspired agitprop.""
As one who may not be able to see the show, can someone please spoil for me the ending they talk about here, that makes the audience gasp?? Forgive me if I missed it stated elsewhere! Thanks!!

The show opens and closes with Clooney/Murrow giving a speech at what seems to be an awards banquet. He’s saying things that apply very obviously to both time periods.
At the end of the play, McCarthy is investigated and removed from his position which we see via original footage. This morphs into a montage of video clips from them all the way up until now of “sensational,” “provocative,” dramatic political content ending with a certain recent gesture by Musk then blackout. That’s what most people are referring to. Then Clooney/Murrow berates the audience for allowing this to happen saying that all of these actions happen because we’re entertained by it and thus won’t do anything about it.
