Hubby and I were discussing Dolly last night and came up with the question: If it is going to be run in London as a special event (and hopefully filmed), could that explain the casting of Charlie Stemp? As an Equity trade? But would having Charlie here for a while be enough to allow them to take over Bette, David, Gavin and Kate for a special run, if the rest of the cast were British Equity?

Equity exchanges are a lot easier now than they used to be (case in point: the HARRY POTTER and ANGELS actors). But *if* Bette plays a few months in London, I wouldn't be surprised to also see DHP... I heard a rumor that Bette's "conditions" for her Broadway return engagement were that DHP, the production stage manager, and the music director all return to the show, too.

Bette goes under the International Superstar category. So I don't think her casting would have to be a part of any trade deal with Equity. Not sure about David.

I like Bette Midler's singing. I like Hello Dolly. I like Bette Midler AS Dolly. But hearing the cast recording, with her just singing it using her regular Bette Midler voice, it was just too on the nose for me.

I get what you are saying. I was responding more to the tone of the original post. I agree with the poster who called the original poster " a fool".

I think if Rudin were more of a visionary, he could've done something to make this run longer. He already shortchanged this revival in the long run by not allowing any truly representative performances on television. All future generations will have is that spiteful "Penny in My Pocket" from the Tonys- and no indication of what unique brilliance bothMidler and Peters brought.
"
This is the most disappointing. No youtube footprint of what a wonderful production it was. As someone who regularly peruses Tony award performances, still incredibly disappointed by that choice.
There is an excellent Bette bootleg, two good Donna ones and Bernadette's bootleg is the best of all in terms of picture quality. All have popped up on YT.

I am hoping Gavins' last moment pops up. It was the most emotional magic I have had in a theater in years.

I was surprise to see no audio of the final show appear in the usual places.

I’m disappointed too. It would have convinced me even more to see the show when the tour comes to California in January.
BwayLB, theres a couple clips on youtube, one is Bernadettes opening number, elegance, sunday clothes, before the parade, and hello dolly (title number). Not sure how long before they get taken down, but if you wanted to see what the tour might look like, its up :)

Is the nonstop rapture of the last week didn't do anything to convince you, you may be unswayable.
It is pure theater magic and joy in a timeless, classic production.

I know the basics of what to exipect since I saw the movie (five years ago actually) but just want to double check if the stage version is something I want to see.

Same. Makes me really sad.
So heartbroken it closed. The talent was immense, and easily the most uplifting magic I have ever in a theatre.
Also, msmp, haterobics, and DAME, I might have a little something from closing...

Fair enough. I’ll keep everyone posted when I buy tickets. By the way I saw the opening number with a Bernadette. Love the costumes and she’s still got that wonderful voice
