Just saw a very sad post under the Instagram stories at the “Hello, Dolly!” Location... that glorious “Sunday Clothes” train was taken away in a a truck today...

There is also a Donna video from her second turn as Dolly and a newer Bette one that has yet to be released, but hopefully those don’t show up on YT.

...to be used on the tour, I presume? Than that’s GOOD news!
As for Midler, sure it would have been wonderful to see her. But honestly, I'm not a big fan of hers, and the price range for her tix was out of my reach. And her cast recording does nothing for me - just sounds like 'Bette Midler sings 'Hello Dolly'."
It was Bette Midler singing Hello Dolly not sure how else you would want her to sound?
"
Like Bette Midler singing in the character of Dolly, not just recording the songs from the show. For some reason, Channing and Streisand (and Bailey) could do it. To me. Midler didn't.

I like Bette Midler's singing. I like Hello Dolly. I like Bette Midler AS Dolly. But hearing the cast recording, with her just singing it using her regular Bette Midler voice, it was just too on the nose for me."
My point, indeed. Some Midler fanboyz didn't understand that.

BWW: You fool. You absolute goddamn fool. How dare you not have money."
You skipped the part where the first slags Bette/her performance off before getting to the part where they couldn't afford it."
Sounds like you're referencing my post, but it's not exactly as you're recalling it. I first said 'though it would have been wonderful to see her' (you skipped that essential part which now changes the narrative), then said I couldn't afford tickets for her . I closed by saying I didn't like her recording of the show. However, I never mentioned her performance at all, since I didn't get to see her. Just clarifying, if this was indeed a reference to my post.

Not sure if I can elaborate more than what has already been said.... but after Gavin sings the first part of "It Only Takes a Moment", he says to the audience:
"Isn't the world full of wonderful things?" <<pause and audience applause>>
"I was couped up in Yonkers for years and years; and all the time wonderful people like Mrs Molloy were walking around New York and I didn't KNOW them... AT ALL."
<<Gavin looks up at the balcony of the theater>>
"I don't know whether you can all see from where you're sitting..."
"For instance the way her eye, forehead, and cheek come together.. up here! Can you?!?"
<< Gavin looks at audience and audience applause>>
"I say it right now.... a fine woman is the greatest work of God on Earth! You can talk all you like about...."
<<this is where Gavin starts to break and laugh>>
"OK okay...." <<Gavin breaks>>
<<Gavin smiles at audience while his hands go up and down acknowledging what just happened, makes a wacky face at the audience, and wipes his hair off to the side with one hand and goes back to the scene while audience gives applause and laughs>>
"You can talk all you like about Niagara Falls and Pyramids; but they aren't in it at all! And I've SEEN women before, but today, I TALKED to one!!!"
<<audience laughs>>
"Equal to equal! And they are soooo different from men! Everything that they say and do is so different that you feel like laughing all the time. And they're awfully mysterious too! I bet you can know a woman a hundred years without ever really being sure whether she liked you or not."
<<audience laughs>>
"Today... I lost so many things: my job, my future, everything... my job..."
<<Gavin breaks again. Gavin laughs at himself since, after all, he is losing his job after the final performance today. Pause while audience gives applause>>
"my job... my Future! Everything that people think is important but I don't care! Even if I have to dig ditches for the rest of my life, I'll be a ditch digger who once had a wonderful day!"
<<audience applause and one by one each audience member gives a standing ovation. Gavin breaks; you can see tears stream down from his eyes and of course Gavin soaks in this special moment that lasted at least 30-45 seconds. Thereafter the clerk typist gets everyone back by saying "I missed a few works back there Mr. Hackl, after 'If only...'">>

That is exactly how it all went down. It was so touching. But hey.. fez up... that is a very detailed account. You have a recording or a link or something? That is a very detailed re enactment... down to the hair moments.

I think you were one of many similar posts over the run, which is why they just sort of rolled them into a similar narrative. Just like the multiple people who rolled out the familiar "Bette plays Bette, but X plays Dolly," before referencing that they also couldn't afford Bette.
I am back at work in Chicago (the city, not the musical), with my coworkers asking about my trip. They asked how Bette was in Dolly. I told them she was fantastic and I am excited that the show will be in town in November with Betty Buckley. Even with my recommendation, they responded with "I'll pass."
Sometimes, it's frustrating to be so in love with musical theatre and not having the people around you give a damn. But I am so happy I got to experience that magical evening this past Saturday. Thank you all for being eager to discuss it. It's truly appreciated.

I've had the opposite experience. I think I'm close to talking a few of my friends to join me in Cleveland for the debut of the tour. (I think Cleveland is still the official launch, since Utica is only a show or two?)

Utica has the two Preview Shows, and Cleveland is still the official National Tour Launch. I had also read somewhere online, but now can’t find the source, that Friday, Oct. 5th was the official “Opening Night”, although the performances begin Sunday, Sept. 30th.
Wick3 said: "Looks like the tour ends in Boston on Aug 25th, 2019... or do you think they'll add more cities? Any of you guys planning to go?"
I can't find a source, but I could have sworn I saw that the tour was supposed to last two years. Either way, I'm trying my hardest to see it in Cleveland, but I'll definitely be going when it comes to Boston.
Jarethan said: " His point: people were more inclined to assume it was more dated than other great hits from the past, which we both agree is not the case."
Indeed, I think this is exactly the point. I think musicals such as Hello, Dolly, Gypsy, Wonderful Town, to name a few, sadly are referred to as 'old' and 'out-dated.' Needless to say, one can argue that they are the foundation of the American musical, and those 'new' musicals out today or in the last 20 years will never come close to their stature. These are the classics that are simply based on the brighter side of things life can offer - unlike today's musicals where laughter is derived from ridicule and offense, blatantly making fun of an idea/belief/way of life that should or shouldn't be. Call it a different kind of entertainment, I guess, that may not be funny to all. That's how I come to see it sometimes and it just turns me off.
As far as the 'star' actors' perceptive, it my be just that bringing in every 'star' actor/actress one after the other for the same production produce a negative comparison of each, and maybe an ego blow as well.. For example, in the end actor A brought in more revenue than D, or actor B was the lowest paid of them all, etc. I'm sure these comparisons will not be welcomed by anyone, regardless of it being a 'dream role.' For instance, I was sad to see Gypsy with Bernadette Peters close, without even any talk of her replacement. Then when it was revived at City Center with LuPone, I believe it lasted under a year as well. Why? Maybe one can argue these two points here as well.
Little late to the party but I saw Donna's final performance. Every so often I see a show and fall in love with theatre all over again - this was one of those experiences. I don't know how to put into words how much I enjoyed the show. Donna was sensational and I was on cloud nine leaving the theatre. Wish I had went earlier in the run so I'd have gotten the chance to go again and again
