Musical Theater Album
"An American in Paris"
"Fun Home"
"Hamilton"
"The King and I"
"Something Rotten!"
Well, gosh. I wonder who the winner is going to be.
At least some of the other musicals coming this season won't have to compete with Hamilton for this award next year.
I thought fun home wasn't eligible. Also was that sarcastic? Because to me it actually seems like a pretty tough choice, but Hamilton will most likely win.
It's not a tough choice.
It's not even a contest. The other nominees are just decoration.

Yeah there's no competition. Billboard even said Hamilton had a chance of being nominated for album of the year. Rolling Stone called it the 8th best album of the year in their top 50 list. Hamilton winning the Grammy is as certain as it winning the Tony.
Looks like it will be the first time a show won the Grammy before winning a single Tony Award since Hairspray.

Hamilton is obviously winning.
Sad that Something Rotten got a nod over The Visit and On The Twentieth Century, two better recordings.

I wish The Last Ship had snuck in there. Far superior to several of those albums.

"Hamilton will most likely win."
Most likely? :)
What could be more certain, seeing that Miranda's score is so far superior to Gershwin's and R & H's? I mean, how can you put songs like The Man I Love or I Have Dreamed in the same league as something like The Room Where It Happens? Ha, ha, ha.
Oh well, we can at least take solace in the fact that Fun Home won't win. At least, we hope!
Things are are so dire, we've got to find consolation wherever we can.

Yes, that esteemed authority on theatre music!

That's the point. They're not usually interested in theatre music so for them to pick this album to put on their top 50 albums from any genre of the year shows it has widespread appeal and is therefore very likely to win the Grammy...

They don't compile a list on theater music, you archaic old internet creation.
A rolling stone gathers no moss, which is why After Eight is absolutely covered with moss.
Such a shame that ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY wasn't included. It was by far my favorite cast album released this past year (outside of HAMILTON, of course), and to see it passed over for SOMETHING ROTTEN and AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is a real disappointment.

Why would you choose those two snoozers as your examples of Golden Age superiority?
Anyway, I had a tiny little hope that Hamilton might actually get nominated for Album of the Year, even though I knew it was a slim chance. Oh well.
I'm also disappointed that The Visit and especially On the Twentieth Century weren't nominated over Something Rotten and the least exciting recording of The King and I since the original.

Did you really need Rolling Stone to tell you that a rap and R&B album has widespread appeal?

You mean YOU'VE got to find consolation wherever YOU can. I am more than ok with you not speaking for me.
I think Fun Home should win, personally. I can't stop listening to it.

What are the eligibility dates? I thought Hamilton would be nominated for next year. Anyway, I think Fun Home is competition but while I love them both, Hamilton is the stronger album and its stands apart from the show better.

The eligibility period was Oct 1, 2014 to Sep 30, 2015. Hamilton's digital release was in late September, so it made the cut for this year's Grammys.

Oh I'm sorry all two people who might think an album besides Hamilton might win. I can't hear you. It's too loud hearing the Hamilton recording blasting in my ears right now. Haha!
It's hard to beat Hamilton, but Fun Home is a tremendous score.
It's a shame, I really thought Hamilton had a run at AOTY thanks to the Roots.
Guess recycled 80s pop music is what they like.

I thought On The Town had a better album than American in Paris or Something Rotten.
