I just used the theater steps/standing. Some people in line had these (tripod stool) and blankets.

I do NOT claim ... when I write, I offer fact.
If you do not believe it to be true, please get on line many many hours before curtain so that you are #1 ... at 9:59AM on the day of the show I will simply arrive at the theater and stand in front of you and "claim" to be number one in line ... I am sure you will enforce something even though the box office is not open yet ... same concept.
The no-swapping rule has been in effect since the Thursday, March 31st line.

What you are describing is called cutting in line...not the same as swapping at all. What we were all wondering is if before the box office opens if person A can switch spots with person B off and on so that one can go sleep and the other saves the spot in line...

Seems someone doesn't actually understand what "line swapping means." Again, please show some evidence that swapping in line before the box office opens is not allowed. Cutting does not equal swapping.
(I myself would never subject myself to the hell that the cancellation line sounds like for $177 tickets. It's insane that $177 is now considered a bargain.)
Can someone please tell me what time to get on line for a wedensday show. (I'm willing to stay on for a night show if i can't get matinee) I'm asking my parents tomorrow if they will take me (not to the show, to the line) as a graduation present (i've been dying to see the show for months) I'm trying to pay by myself.

There's no such thing as cutting as I did it at 9:59AM ... before the box office opened ... and when, apparently according to you, there is no way to enforce any rules, even though they exist. Thanks for allowing me to be #1 in line so that I can see the show instead of you.

Please show me some "evidence" that I can't simply stand in front of you and claim to be #1 in line.
I just did show you the evidence - the rule has been in place since March 31st.

Sunshinegirl stated in her post two pages ago that she saw 9 people waiting for Wednesday shows when she was on the cancellation line last Tuesday. If you have the time and want a sure bet, then you probably have to get to the theater before 5am.
I got on line at 10pm Tuesday night for the next day's show. That was the first week in April on a night that was below freezing. Although I got into the matinee, I would suggest lining up even earlier. It seems to me that the line keeps starting earlier. I was in NYC to see The Color Purple last Sunday. I walked by and 5 people were already lined up for Monday's show.
To those asking questions about line swapping: My friend and I saw the show on March 31. We sat in line for 12 hours. My friend "manned" the line form 5:30 am till noon. Yes, someone from the theater was monitoring the line, and I was questioned. They told me that they no longer allow line swapping. They left me alone when I told them I was watching the show as well. So, as long as you're both watching the show, you may take turns sitting in line
Fast forward to last nigh. Yes, we drove 5 hours again from Wash. DC to watch it again! We got here at 5:30 pm, Thursday to get in line for Friday night show. We were 5th in line ALREADY! We were prepared to sit overnight, and our car was packed with chairs, blankets and sleeping bags. We were also planning to grab premium seats should they be offered. When we did our Math however, we figured that it would cost us the same amt to hire a prof line seater as it is to pay for premium seats. So, we paid someone to sit for us and we spent the night tucked in a comfy bed in the hotel next door. Only rule...they have to sit all the way until show time...NO LINE SWITCHING once they sit for you. Pray we get tickets or we lose the professional fee we hire them. Peace out!
Good luck Em6 and thanks for letting us know! You probably came back to see Lin Manuel perform? If I recall correctly, he was on vacation week of March 31st.

Ugh 5 people already at 5:30. did you happen to ask if they were all looking for two tickets?
Did you use SOLD? I'm surprised you were able to get someone so late. Good luck! Hope it works out!
Yes, they were all waiting for 2 tix. 2 people ahead of us are from SOLD. And yes, we also used SOLD. There are other line sitters as well, but seem to be not as official. Also, 10 min. before show time, concierge rep from Marriott, next door cam and said they had 3 cancellation tix for last night's show for 350 dol for mezannine seats. There were also several scalppers lurking around...some were willing to have you confirm the tickets at the door before paying.
Tripod chairs small to pack, uncomfortable to sit in for XX amount of hours. The REI chair I have that Think Of Laura shared or the AMAZON chair Steins shared has a back and more comfortable to sit in for hours plus folds maaaaad small! About 18 long and 5 inches in diameter.

"Hey GatorGirl2, backpack looks kinda deep. But others who have sat in other areas of the theater can tell you otherwise. This year I decided to make it a "Broadway Year" starting in February by taking my Cuban mom to see "On Your Feet". Since then, I've hit over a dozen shows and I've had the opportunity to sit in many theaters in a short amount of time. So I have to say, the Richard Rodgers theater has THE WORST leg room! LOL! I sat in the Rear Mezz, and would hope ORCH has more space but there was barely any room to keep my legs and my clear work purse in front of my legs (clear work purse just 3 inches deep! http://clear-handbags.com/clear-tote-bags/clear-square-tote-zipper.html) My husband noted the cramp space. Only salvation was that we were in Rear Mezz row A so we had a railing with a curtain which allowed for a little extra room. I had to be careful my purse didnt get kicked out from under the railing. Onto the floor about 2 feet or so. Don't bring any bag too big or it'll be on your lap. Just my advice from where I sat.

Haha, looks like my question about chairs took a different direction than I intended. My question is not "which chair should I bring", but more "AM I ALLOWED TO LIE DOWN"?
It reclines backwards but doesn't take up a whole lot of space, and works in a pinch for curling up on. I do appreciate the chair suggestions in the name of sharing info, but can someone also let me know if they restrict things like this for space/safety? And is the "backpack" that it folds into small enough to be taken in?

On March 11, I'd say YES! You can lie down. You can bring a chair to the line like the one in your link. You cannot bring the chair inside the RRT. Be prepared to stow your chair in a car, hotel room, donate to another person waiting in line for the next evening show or discard the chair in the dumpster across the street (if its there that evening). Just don't abandon the chair on the line because I'm sure the RRT would be very upset if that started happening and ban everything but human beings from the line.
Already 7 people in line for tomorrow's show(s). Several of them have SOLD hats on. Given the number of people in line already, I'm not sure if this is worth potentially not being able to see two other shows (tonight and tomorrow at 2pm).

"YES! We LOVED the show, but def want to see LMM peform. As of 2 PM today, around 13 people are in line for tonight's show. Did I mention that yesterday afternoon, a Saturday line was also forming behind the Friday line? ??
That's your latest update. Em6 reporting live from Richard Rogers theater (sidewalk!).

"Yesterday (Thursday) at 5:30 PM when we arrived, there were already 4 in line for tomorow's (Saturday) show!"
